I was all excited about getting some long hair and now I am hating it! These hair extensions suck big time. My head is sore from the tight braids, my scalp itches, the extensions look too unreal, and all in all it is very very uncomfortable. I feel so silly with these damn things stuck into my head. I would not recommend getting this done. The wind blows and you can see the braids. I would go to the bathroom right and now and jerk these things out but I can't out of guilt. My mom was generous enough to pay for them so I feel like I have to keep them for awhile, even though I am absolutely miserable!
What type of extensions did you get? I HATE mine as well. I have the euroloc extension - these things are clamped to my real hair and I have tried every way possible to get them out on my own. I paid a fortune for them to begin with and don't want to go back to the salon to pay another dime. They look soooo fake, itch my head as well and I can't style them worth a damn. They must sell hair removal clamps somewhere - I have been looking online but can't find anything. Does anyone know how I can remove the Euroloc on my own??? Please HELP!!!!
I don't have any pics---but any length that I had started to grow on my own had to be chopped off due to all the damage caused.
I don't know what the method was called---all I know is that she braided them into my hair with string and then glue on the crown of my head.
I feel your pain! I dont' know how to take your type of hair extensions out . Heck, I jerked my out because I paid a good load of money myself and didn't want to go back to that woman that did them either. There was no way I was going to give them another cent of my money. "Where there is a will, there is a way." I'm sure you can get those darned things out of your hair. I support you in every way. This has been a hellish experience for me.......so much for long hair!
Hey! Thanks for your response. Although it's an awful experience I am glad to have someone that can support me in what I am going through. I don't wish this on anyone and want people to learn from my experience if anything.
I ended up going back to the lady that did them and she charged me $50 to take them out. Can you believe that - after spending soooo much on those darn things AND only having them in for a month...she charged me to take them out. Of all things! I was reallly upset and even more upset that a HUGE majority of my real hair came out as a result of removing the extensions.
I feel bald now - it yanked all my hair out and like you, I had to get my hair chopped off (the hair that was growing). I guess live and learn but what a huge waste of time & more importantly....$$$$$. Did you lose any of your real hair in the process????
I admire you for keeping them in for a month--mine only lasted 5 days in my head .
Very tramatic---yes, I had wads and wads of hair coming out when I washed it after getting all of that out of my head. I hate that you had to go through all of that---I'm like you, I just want to help others from getting into this type of situation.
There must be good hair extensions out there. I'm sure there is because a lot of people get them---just don't know what type. That is why I'm preaching the importance of research before you do something like this.
Hey, Im glad someone mentioned EuroLocs. I have been trying to find someone who has had some experience with them. I was also told that they are not good. I do extensions in Europe/Holland and I am always looking for other techniques to try. Has anyone tried or had any experience with ProHair extensions or Microring extension systems?

I'm really sorry you had such a bad experience. Choosing the right method, the right hair, and the right stylist to attach them makes all the difference in the world!
I didn't bother with chemicals, tar, or glue but instead simply used thread to tie the braid at the end. The trick is making sure the braid isn't too thick so it doesn't stick out. I absolutely adored my extensions and they helped immensely in growing out my hair. My natural hair is about the length I want it now, so I no longer wear them for length, but I did want to simply add a word that not all hair extensions experiences are disasters! Again, I'm sorry that you had such a bad time.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experiences with extensions. They aren't for everybody, that's for sure. I've had them before, and though they could be a nuisance, I got a ton of growth from them, so I think it all depends on the person. Thick hair is best for the sewn-in kind so that they hold on to the weft longer. Have any of you tried the clip-on kind? These may be a better option for you the next time you want a change. They are quick and you don't have to feel guilty when you want to take them out, because you can turn back around and put them in again.
Why would thy be from the head? I thought hair extensions just went (Unless they're those twisty ones that are usually purple or something) from the ends of the hair, it makes no sense to go from the scalp.
I know someone who got hair extensions and her hair is perfect, I would never have known other than she told people.

I just had them put in my hair about 2 weeks ago after a short, bad haircut. Mine were put in with like a little heat gun. Which I guess is glue! They are driving me nuts and I am trying to find out how to remove them without doing any damange to my own hair. My hair was so short on top and it really was too short for extensions but the syylist put them in and now I look like Billy Ray Cyrus!! So I cut the back alittle shorter, which it looks better but I want them out!! I don't care I can't even comb hair over my cowlick!! I just ordered a Raquel Welch wig!!

I did exactly the same thing. I had hair that was too short for extensions but the stylist put them in anyway. She used Great Lengths. When I left the salon, I had a MULLET!!! I had all the length cut off into a very short bob but I still want the awful things OUT!!!! Does anyone know a home remedy that I can use to remove them myself? Great Lengths uses a keratin-type bond (glue). PLEASE HELP ME!!
I am so sorry to hear of your nightmares but YES it depends on the type. I had braides on the scalp done years ago and it hurt like hell..I could not even sleep at night cause of this huge bulge, then moved onto easier methods that incorporated glue. I now wear Monkey Barrz after hundreds of attempts of other kinds and LOVE them. I will give you the product on how to remove them though as you wish..For the braided weft, simply cut out the thread holding the artificial hair to your own and be careful when undoing the braid..As for anyone that is using a bonded or glued method, buy a product called 'acetone" which can be purchased at any beauty supply store...This product will completely dissolve the glue with no damage to your own hair..I have used this product hundreds of times and no damage...It completely dissolves the glue....I use this product to also remove artificial nails..Anyway good luck girls and again I am sorry to hear of your bad experience..I know how you feelo cause I have been there too many times...If you have any questions, feel free to email me at :brandii_g@yahoo.com and I will be happy to help in your questions or removal...
Ouch, sounds like your stylists didn't explain ext. very well or straight up lied about how the experience would be. Sorry ladies. I wore braids for many years and just had some smooth, light extensions put in. General advice:
TO the people with bad experiences: you know that it's good to have extensions checked on every 4 weeks right? That way you can do readjustments and ask questions.
Also, it's fair for the stylist to charge money to take them out. This is the only way to get them out safely it costs her in time so she should get paid.
Also, extensions (glued or braided) are not forever. Ideally, they should be replaced every 2 months. Some people dependig on wear and tear need them redone a little earlier or later.
A fun fact: almost all complex hair treatments (extenisons, coloring, relaxing, braids,etc) should be redone every 6-8 weeks because of hair growth. It's a good time frame to remember.

I recently let a close friend dust off her weaving skills by giving me braided track extensions. I too am really sorry for all your aweful experiences:( I LOVE my new hair, but i'm clueless as to caring for it so that it lasts...
I'll admit it hurt like hell for two days, not to mention the last two hours of the six hr. process!! it took me about three days to adjust to the weight, and awkward change... and it still itches periodically, two weeks later, but the minor irritation that lingers is far outweighed by my great hair!!
I want to know the best after-care methods for my braided-in extensions(real hair)!!!!!!!! My friend is across the country now, so i need do-it yourself instructions... PLEASE help me keep the new improved me as long as i can:) Thanks, Lea lauren@futureconsortium.com
Hi Dee, I'm alittle late in posting a response to your request on ProHair. I am NOT a hairdresser, but I am a hair extension wearer. I have been wearing Hair Extensions since 1989, and the ProHair method since 1994. I have only changed one time to human hair and went immediately back (within a day) to the ProHair. For me, they work GREAT! My stylist has been doing my hair since 1990. I have NOT LOST ONE hair extension in 8 years! I kid you not. I love this method. The hair itself looks as good the day they come out, as the day it went in. I am able to wear it straight or curly which ever way I prefer at any given time. If these extensions are not put up too high into the crown of my head, I have absolutally NO discomfort or problems. My experience is this: If the extension is too high in my head, they are more bothersome and the weight of the extension weighs down my top volume as they are visible at times. I keep the extensions to the back of my head and my sides. I am a success story with the ProHair method. I hope this info is not too late as it is about a year since your original posting, and I hope it has helped. Yvette LV
Hello ladies... this is C from New York. For the past two weeks, I've done nothing but cry. I had the Eurolocs put in my hair by a professional on the last week of January 2004. It took her 3 days to put it in - I knew then this wouldn't be pretty. Once I got home the first night... they were unmanageable and tangled ridiculously. I had to go back to show her, she winded up putting a chemical relaxer in my hair and the extentions. Here we are 4 weeks later and I have half a head of hair. No kidding, a month and it looks horrible! I've been taking pictures to prove my point! For $2000.00 I never thought I'd look like this. I find comfort in knowing I'm not alone. This woman cannot get away with this! When they told us about the procedure, why didn't they tell us about the strands falling off so easily, or the fact that you CANNOT do all the styles you've dreamed of??? Has anyone figured out a way to get retribution from these people?? And to that girl that paid $50.00 to have them removed... girl, if I find out anything I'll let you know! These things cost too much to have them walk away laughing at us!
