A month and a half ago, I got a full head of extensions for $3000 by an extensionst who''s based in Pennsylvania but travels to New York. A few days later, my extensions started ripping out at the root, and the next thing I knew I lost about 1/4 of them, plus a lot of my own hair. I tried to contact this woman repeatedly, but she avoided my calls. The one time I got her on the phone, she said she didn''t know why this was happening. She also said she gives absolutely no refunds, so I was basically screwed. I ended up getting another extensionist to remove them and I''m now wearing a wig. Is there any recourse for me--any (legal) way for me to recoup all or at least some of my money? Also, is it legal for her to be providing this service in NY (I assume she''s not paying taxes here and doesn''t have a NY cosmetology license.) I''d like to threaten her with some cause of action, but I''m not sure what my options are. Thanks in Advance.
She can get fined or loose her liscensing in Pennsylvania if she is working in another state without a liscence in the state she does the work in . You can sue her for malpractice in which if she has a salon she should have coverage. In most cases a suit like this could be costly and time consuming. You will have to make sure that you didn't sign a consent form or release form if you did you aren't allowed for compensation.
If you want you could look in one of the Milady textbooks that Cosmetologist have acess to for education it is it.... Hope I helped good luck and please for your sake and your hair's research before big decissions with are made..
i personally think she should of at least responded to your concerns and worries- AND she should of did some trouble shooting with you to find out WHY they were ripping out of your head. Were they bonded or glued in? purhaps they were too close to the scalp? as far as leagal matters- not sure but i think- you really dont have to be a "liscensed" cosmotologist to do extensions- i can check with my gal to find out what and If there is anything you can do- how did you find her if she flys around? Web site? is there a place to leave comments? Does she work in a Salon? can you call the owner? if nothing else, remember this- she will have to wake up to herself everyday knowing she left you Unsatisfied, also chalk it up to experience and move on. I use Nioxin shampoo for my fine thin hair and it does help it grow fast too- they sell it in good salons.lastly- i would encourage you to write her a leter - a nice but firm heart to heart letter telling her how she made you feel from the time you First got them in and how you were so happy to get them up until now. i am not a hairdresser but i am in the beauty industry and u can bet , i would feel terrible if i did that to someone without trying to help. good luck cait
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I had over 80 extensions in my hair and loved them. They were installed the correct way so they could swing and lay flat against my head. Perhaps yours were too close to the scalp. Or if you were going through some stress your hair may have been in the wrong shape for hair extensions. If that was the case then the hair extension artist should have told you. Also when you brush them you can just brush like normal. You must be gentel and start from the ends while holding the extensions in your hand. I hope you get some recourse. You might try the Balmain extensions I had. You can find certified extension artist at redsalonsource.com
