great lengths has a remover that is gel like and works really good at taking them out- no acetone- acetone remove other types of bonds great lengths uses a gel base high alcohol- it is gel so it sticks to the bond and does not get all over your hair.... if your stylist was using acetone which does not work on gl- maybe she or he was too cheap to buy the proper remover- i would look in to it cause it should not hurt- there was a post a while back about paris and her getting great lenghts she does and the salon she goes to is veredsalon.com check out the website... if she uses gl they can not be all bad like people like to post- i am sure she along with the other celebs posted on this website with there stylist would only buy the best!!!! to all that keep postinf that gl is a glue.... yes it melts on your hair but it is keratin base- when it is melting it does not stick to your fingers or stay hot- also if reheated it does not get sticky.... other prebond extensions that are glue get sticky in hot weather or rement when they get hot- for example lord and cliff - there is a huge difference in the bond and how they hold up--- bonds that get resticky when warmed will grab other hair not in the bond but around it and cause a mess. gl, and cinderella hair do not do this as they do not reheat.... fyi lord and cliffs remover is acetone based- if you use acetone on these bonds they crumble- used on gl nothing- alchol based remover on gl cause them to get soft realease the hair and slide out NO I DO NOT WORK FOR GREAT LEANGTHS- or do hair i do my own extensions at home on myself and have tried everything- granted i did go to school for hair and have a license i do not oractice though...hopes this helps- oh i have been doing my own extensions for 7 years and have used everything from gl, cinderella, lord and cliff, and micro links if you need to know where to buy any i will be happy to post as i have tried it all thanksagain

GLs may be what Nicole Richie uses, but it is VERY DAMAGING to hair that's thin, weak, damaged, color-treated, fine, or if you're trying to grow your hair out. The remover is a gel, but it's acetone-based, and the "keratin" bond is basically glue; it does melt into the hair, as does CInderella--believe me, I have the damage to prove it.
It's great if GLs works for you, but it's just irresponsible to recommend it to anyone whose hair is thin, weak, damaged, color-treated, fine, or is trying to grow their hair out. You'll notice that anytime Paris takes her hair out, it supershort; obviously her hair isn't growing with GLs. Nicole and Paris can afford to spend $2000 a month on their hair for the rest of their lives and be bald; most people can't.
Just because a celebrity has used some method does not mean it's the best at all. Don't be fooled.
jenny you are pretty rude to me- thats okay i can handle it- as i was trying to tell you- there are different ingredients used in different hair companys "tips" .acetone works with some- gls no- you need to use alchol if you do not want to use gl remover which is like 12.00 a bottle then you can buy everclear a really high grain alchol that takes them out. since you do not even know what anti tap water is then maybe you should not post about knowing gls- if you did you would know what anti is... anyone who is familiar with gls- knows what it is- maybe you know about strand by strand bonding but do you really think you know about indiviual brands? and for acetone not being listed on the ingrediants??? hello- by law they HAVE to list everything on the ingrediants and on a gls remover bottle acetone is NOT there! if it was i would tell people and help them get there hair out easier.there is no differance what one has to use to get them of but if someone uses the wrong product for removal- it is gonna hurt and rip out hair- so before giving bad advice try knowing the brand to which you are referring to. okay..have a great day

You need to relax, HelloKitty. I'm sorry if you're offended, but there are tons of people who've posted their concerns about GLs--I'm hardly the first--just search the archives. And I've had GLs more than once (as well as glue, Cinderella, Hairlocs, braids, microrings, cold fusion, etc.), and believe it or not, I was never advised to use anti-tap; that doesn't mean I don't know anything about these methods.
Whether the remover is technically acetone or not, it must be a solvent, or it wouldn't break down the bond. Any non-water-soluble adhesive (like the GLs keratin bond) must be removed with a solvent. (Many of these are alcohol based. And by alcohol, I didn't necessarily mean Everclear, although theoretically that would work. I meant rubbing alcohol or the kind you find in tons of products.)
Any solvent of this kind can't be the best thing for hair, but again, I'm less concerned about the damage of the solvent being on the hair for a short while than I am about the removal process itself, which tends to be very damaging (and yes, my stylists--I had two of them for GLs--both used the actual GLs remover; it said so on the bottle, and removal still required tons of pulling, ripping, and damage).
And by the way, I never gave "bad advice"--I suggested leaving olive oil on the bonds to break them down, using needle-nose pliers to crack the bonds, and letting the hair slip out. Olive oil, of course, is very good and nourishing for the hair.
If you're having success with this method, congratulations--that's great. But again, people deserve to hear both the positive and negative points of every process. Your blind enthusiasm for the GLs (you haven't mentioned even one drawback) sounds more like a salespitch than sound advice. Perhaps you're concerned that I'm runing your chances of drumming up business here? (You've posted the link for the Nicole Richie salon--perhaps your salon?--several times now.)
