Does anyone know how to crochet hair. I stumbled on this and I'm not sure how this is done. If anyone knows of a site or video that has a "how to" I would really appreciate it. I am interested in this technique because from what I see the hair attatchments are really small. Any info or leads would be appreciated.
Huh. I've never heard of it. I think the pinchbraiding technique, which uses a slipknot of sorts and a braid, may be somewhat like crochet, but I'm not familiar with anything that's actually called "crocheted." Do you have a link or something? It'd not this; is it? http://www.hairalchemy.com/tutorial/index.html
I saw a tutorial on this the other day. I didn't bookmark it, so I can't link you, but it was really easy.
First, the hard part: you cornrow the hair. Then you take your crochet needle, which looks like a little latch hook you use on rugs. Insert it through one of the cornrows. When it comes out the other side, put in the doubled end of a synthetic braid you've folded in half. Pull it back through, until the loop is out probably half an inch. Now reach through the loop with the needle, catching both braid strands. Pull them though the loop and pull down on them snugly.
basicaly u will need some braiding hair, hair, a latch hook, and u will need a lighter.. some people use only the hair and when they get to the end of the braid tie it into a good not and put some nail glue on it.. u have to be a good braider for this to look good..
1. corn row all the hair diffrent patterns will make the hair lay diffrent ways. 2. after everything is corrowed nice and neet and pretty small no big gaps in-between tracks burn the ends of the braids. 3. get your hair take strand by strand fold in half insert your latch hook through the braid grab the hair in the middle at the fold and pull it threw its so easy you may have to do a couple to get it perfect. after that is done tie the thing like your tien your shoe just with out the bow.. do it at least 2 ties and keep doint the steps above untill the cornrows are coverd.. sucks to take out.. hope this helps...
Here's the website that I found this on. I've seen the crocheted hair that you guys are talking about but this is different. It's a strand to strand method. It doesn't really say crocheted hair it just says that they use a crochet needle. http://www.worldviewdesign.com/optimalhealthweightloss/optimal6.htm
OK. That's not crocheting; I'm 90% sure it's a version of the Microillusions system, which is used a lot for hair replacement. (This is not to be confused with microlinks or microrings, which are something else entirely.)
It's obviously very expensive, and if it is like microillusions, I've read mixed reviews. I would suggest searching the Black Media Forum, Heralopecia (the boards are down right now, but should be back up soon), and Keratin.com. I remember seeing posts about this kind of technique there.
Just for curiosity, what are you looking for exactly? Is your hair thinning, or do you just want to add length and a little volume?
Yeah, I don't think there's anything quite like that on the DIY market, and site says it costs $2,400 to $5,000 per head (ouch!).
Have you looked into Shrinkies, extendtubes, or pinchbraids? They're all pretty nondamaging and affordable. Shrinkies and extendtubes you could do by yourself, but pinchbraids are harder, requiring a stylist unless you're skilled at it yourself.
I just tried the micro links (dr locks). They work well. I had a friend put them in for me. Kinda hard to do the back of my own head. I read all the post about the shrinkies and I might try those next. I didn't get those because I don't have a heat wand.
I've had the sewn in kind a long time ago but I don't like the fact that you can only wear it one way. Not versatile at all. Then I found out about the strand to strand methods and I'm reallyexcited about having hair that looks and flows more natural.
I'm glad to hear the Microrings from Doc Locks are going well. Shrinks sound like a logical next step, and you may be able to get by with the corner of a slim flatiron, although I'm sure it'd be easier with a fusion wand.
I saw a post with that website and thought I would try. They offered a good amount of hair for the price.
I know there are so many different types of hair ..Remy, Bohyme. I still have not a clue as to the difference. I have had it in for just over a week and it's working out - so far so good. I've read all the stories of tangling and matting so I have been careful about putting my hair in a ponytail and wrapping it at night so I don't get it all tangled.
