I don't think my dome or plastikhaar will be here in time. i just need you all to feel for me bc i have noone else to whine to lol noone else will understand hahaha
pinchbraids sound cool. Synthetic are the best with that method, is that right? I think I read that somewhere. Would love to see some pics after you have it done, ok? Good luck with the installation.
Did you order Dome and Plastikhaar? What kind did you get?
Well, I really like pinchbraids--better than the rings, in fact. I never lose them, and I douse the roots with conditioner every day; they still never budge. Plus, it's a very nondamaging method, and removal is quick and painless.
The only downsides are that they can be a bit visible on thin hair, so it's important that they're placed properly. Also, the hair is a bit overlapped at the root, so you should always order the hair about two inches longer than you really want it.
Overall, though, it's a good method--and you really never hear "nightmare stories" about it, like with other techniques.
Amm: Pinchbraids work fine with human hair or synth. Someone once said that the overlapping at the roots could cause problems because the hair is facing a different direction, but I've never had any problems (just goes to show that most extension hair has virtually no cuticle left).
I've heard that synth is much better with microrings though, because they're less slippage since the hair doesn't change shape when wet.
i actually have thin hair so i am a little worried, but i have a jar of microrings so... ::shrugs:: maybe that will be the hairline area....

Good Luck with the Pinch Braids. I'm not very familiar with them but just like anything else, Braids have to be in fairly tight to stay on well. This can eventually cause traction alopecia. Be Careful and Good Luck! www.excellength.com
There's no reason why you shouldn't at least try it. Sometimes it may take experimenting with several methods before you try the one that works for you.
What the heck...give it a chance. You can always have it removed. :)
If you want to wait till you get the Dome hair, why don't you just postpone the appointment until it comes? I thought Dome came in 24 inches; now I'm confused, I'll have to look into it further. As far as traction alopecia, this can happen if your hair braided too tight for long periods of time. I have never experienced this with pinchbraids, though.
The majority of my hair is human-hair pinchbraids done by Isaac, and I experiment with the other stuff--Shrinks, extendtubes, etc. I plan on switching to synth soon, and I'll probably install some of it myself and do the testing, then have Issac do the rest (the back of my head, blowing it out, etc.). I'll probably switch totally to Shrinks, too, but I want to wait till I've tested them fully. Issac is still testing them too, to make sure they're safe for his clients.
I really don't mention Issac much on this website, because I don't like to "advertise" or promote people. I don't think this is the place for it. I did post a positive review on Quinnster's awhile back, but people got real suspicious that I wasn't legit (although I've been posting there for awhile now), so I'm not sure what that was all about.
Anyway, Isaac does stop by here occasionally to share tips and advice, and in my opinion, he's terrific. I went to him after several horrible experiences with extensionists, and he's the only one I've been happy with. He's very open to new ideas and experimentation, and embraces the DIY world (a lot like Kristin in that sense). His prices are reasonable (particularly for New York), and I'm always emailing him with new ideas, like, "Should I try this?" and he's very supportive. I was like, "I want to try synthetic," and he was like, "That's great--let's do it!" Generally, I buy my own hair, too (most stylists require that you use their brands).
Anyway, that's my experience with him, but everyone's experience is different. So for now, I would stick with the person you found and see how it works out. If you're not happy, then think about trying different people--maybe Isaac--or doing it yourself.
And one more thing, my hair's superthin and fine. The pinchbraids are a good method for my hair because of the non-damage factor; in terms of visibility, just make sure your stylist doesn't go up too high and makes the braids smaller as he/she works up the head.
Well, I don't know that it's 24 inch. I've heard it's 24 inch. Look through some of these posts (the ones that link to Quinnster's board and check out the corresponding threads there). 18 inch sounds short to me; I really thought Dome was longer than that.... Or just post on Quinnsters; someone there should be able to give you a definitive answer.
