I just got shrinkies for the first time and I was wondering if anyone had any special tips for caring for them and avoiding excessive shedding. I was also wondering if there is a specific kind of shampoo I should use? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Congratulations! Did you do them yourself, or did someone else do them for you? Do you like the way they look?
I don't know much about Shrinkie maintenance specifically, but many of the general care rules for any extensions would apply--no conditioner, oils, or silicone sprays at the roots (use these products only on the bottom half of the hair); gentle brushing with a good boar's hair or soft nylon brush (only when the hair is dry); detangle with your fingers when the hair is wet; sleep with your hair in a low, loose braid; don't go to sleep with wet hair; don't use hot tools near the Shrinkie bonds; hold the hair in a ponytail when you are brushing; and use a satin, silk, or sateen pillowcase. Again, these are the general care guidelines for almost all extensions. I don't thnk any special shampoos would be necessary, but maybe others can advise you on this.
Some people do OK breaking these rules with certain methods (I use a ton of conditioner on my roots every day with no problems at all, for example, but only with pinchbraids, never with any other methods). That said, it would be best to follow this general regimen, at least at first, to avoid slippage or damage.
keep posting and let us know how the shrinkies are doing, i'm curious myself. how much did you pay for them? and what area did you have them done? thanks and good luck w/them!
On ebay, in the ebay store "Not Just Wigs" they sell an oil free shampoo and conditioner that is to be used on fusion extensions. Because it is oil free, they say that the shampoo and conditioner won't break down the bonding material.
I would imagine that this type of shampoo and conditioner would also be good for shrinkie hair extensions.
I haven't tried the stuff yet myself, but I plan on ordering some to see if I like it.

Hey Amanda, have you ordered hair from Not Just Wigs? I was thinking of getting hair from them, 200 strands of pre-tipped for $159 seems like a great buy to me but about 4 people on another board said Not Just Wigs hair is garbage.
I've actually ordered from Not Just Wigs (even though I'm U.S.)--synthetic falls and wigs, and they were fine. But I saw those reviews you're talking about, too, so I wouldn't order extensions hair from them--too risky.:)
Ive ordered other stuff from them too. And have also heard about the poor quality of their individual strands. Ive heard it from pretty trustworthy sources so I personally wouldn't buy it.
