I have 2 Sallys in my town, and one of them dosnt sell any hair stuff at all. The other only sells latex. Although they are getting some new stuff in so maybe they plan to expand their hair section. I can only hope.

Ive pretipped with Latex before, and asked some girlson quinsters what a good pretip would be for shrinkies if I didnt have access to liquid gold. They said latex would be fine.

Kalika,

I'm a little clueless when it comes to glue. What's the difference between Liquid Gold and latex? And are there any particular latex brands you'd recommend? Thanks!

I have pretipped with latex and it'll work but I dont like it because it leaves gooey residue in your hair that is harder to get out. Cheap latex is messy to remove. Its not as bad with pretipps sinse there is only a little bit compared to wefts, but I just avoid the cheaper latex completely.

I dont know the diffrence, thats why I asked what to use if I didnt have access to liquid gold :)

and the latex I use is the clear stuff they sell at sally's. the cheap stuff - lol.

I've always been a braider or used bonded wefts, but mostly braided things in, so a lot of the glue stuff is still new to me.

I will never get fusion again ever though. horror story - got it "professionally done" - ended up with snarky extensions and 1/2 my hair.

That's cool that you can braid (wish I could!):).

I had the same experience with salon fusion--I had almost no hair left when it was removed. A horrible, horrible experience.

Why do you think you had so much damage? (With me, they were basically ripping them out of my head because the remover just didn't break down the bonds enough. Plus, the residue was a nightmare to remove, too.)

well - th hair wasnt pretipped to begin with - so I had horrible shedding.

their "amazing" human hair was disgusting. Im a huge fan of synth, but I figured Id give human hair a try, but after a couple washes it got nasty.

the bonds were WAY too thick. Ive seen well dont fusion before, and it looked amazing, super tiny bonds, hardly noticeable. these were very thick, and noticable.

they wernt orginazed very well at all. little hairs from all over my head would get stuck in the bonds. it looked ugly.

and when they took out my hair, she kept wrenching on it, and when it was all over, the diamater of my hair in a ponytail was much smaller then it was to begin with. I also had it taken out after only 6 weeks cause it was just so nasty.

Oh, that sounds horrible. I'm sure you paid a lot for that hair and installation, too. I've heard so many horror stories about salon fusion. I feel like very few people are as careful as they should be.

Anyway, are you using synth again? Any particular brand? (I'll be experimenting with synth--Plastikhaar and Dome--real soon, so I'm excited:))

Im going to use Plastikhaar for the first time as soon as it comes in, but Ive always loved http://www.hairpiece.com/product.asp?pf_id=APE502 and http://www.afrocare.com/cgi-local/afro/getsynhair.cgi?id=16&T=S and as far as wefts go, I prefer using bulk hair, so in the somewhat rarer occations I'd use wefts, I'd just get the local silky straight weft from the beauty supply store. Not recommended for long term wear, but its just fine for a weekend thing

Thanks for the info.

I'm waiting for my first PlastikHaar and Dome orders to come in, too, and I'm excited (I know I've probably said that about 1,000 times now). One of the colors I want from PH is backordered, so it's going to take a little longer, but it should all be here fairly soon. Sara from PH is a doll to deal with, I have to say. She's so helpful and sweet.

oh she's been nothing but sweet to me. I ordered a couple days ago - she was out of satin blonde and apologized profously, so I went ahead and got the platinum.

She really is a doll

Sounds like we all ordered about the same time. She was out of a couple of my colors and suggested to me what I could get instead since alot of the blondes are very similar and they can be mixed. I ordered about 6 different colors.....woohoooo I cant wait to get them! I love the selection of blondes! I feel like a kid in a candy store! LOL

That's so funny--we're all in the same boat! I'm planning to mix a couple of colors, too, so I'm sure we'll all be figuring it out together.

Have you girls ever worked with bulk before? I may actually invest in one of those drawing mats.

Ive worked with bulk a little...but only for highlights/streaks. So it was pretty simple to just snip a tiny bit from the rubberbanded top. But since I am going to be doing a whole head and mixing colors Im sure that isnt gonna work! Yeah the drawing mats are probably a good idea. I know I saw them somewhere for a really good price. Will check into that....

Oh, excellent, Sherrrie--which do you think would be the best for home use? The drawing mat or the hackle?
