QuoteReplyTopic: Regular Hair cutteres for extensions? Posted: February 04 2005 at 9:20pm
I posted and earlier question with no replies, I think I must not have been too clear on my question. So, here it goes. Would any hairstylist cut my extensions for me to shape and layer them? Is it more expensive?
Please advise. I tried cutting my 24' one down and they lokk too blunt, and need to be razor cut, which I don't know how to do.
I think extensions definitely cut different than natural hair, although any stylist should be able to cut them into a nice style. So long as they dont get too scissor happy! I would prefer one who has cut extensions before. I dont see any reason that they should charge you more to cut the extensions than if it were just natural hair.
Oh yeah cut them dry, Ive also heard alot of people say they prefer the extensions cut with scissors rather than razor cut. I have always razored mine but I do believe that I start getting split ends quicker. My latest extensions I did very little razoring at all. Just a bit through the front around my face.
Jessicat~ I don't know where you are located but only go to someone with experience cutting extensions. It should cost no more than a regular hair cut. Although I have seen some salons charging more to cut in extensions. If you live in New York, I highly recommend "Tom" from Bumble & Bumble. He cut my hair for 7 years and also cut my extensions the best ever. He blended the hair perfectly with my own hair. I miss him so much......I haven't found a stylist since I moved state that can cut like him. He's about $115 for a hair cut....but worth it. He's a doll!!

I just looked up the number for Tom, it is (212)-521-6500 @146E 56TH ST, 10022 . I think he now works only a few days a week as he is a teacher at the Bumble & Bumble School.

It's okay, Sherrie, I balked at that, too. I paid like $40 last time, and I thought that was too much (I don't even make them shampoo my hair 'cause I know it'll take an extra 30 minutes to get it all combed out).
LOL--welcome to my world! In New York City, the price of everything is inflated about a thousand times. The average apartment here costs over a million dollars (a small, cramped one-bedroom that's more like a studio, actually).
Sadly, $115 is standard for Bumble & Bumble, and a bargain compared to some places. Want a haircut with Garren for $400? Julian Farrel for $200? John Sahag for $300? I think Orlando Pita just opened a new salon here and has topped everyone, coming in at $600 per cut. I **** you not. Of course, these are all celebrity stylists.
Fortunately, you can get a cut for cheaper than that. Email Isaac at Cyberparlor, and see what he charges for a cut (I actually don't know because I always get the full-service extensions deal). Failing that, try Hair Pi Salon in the East Village, or perhaps you could try Merguthrie's guy. Isn't Julie Jetson in NYC? I would think any of these people would give you a more reasonable price, especially if you only want a trim.
Keep in mind that you'll get split ends faster with a razor cut. They work great on extensions, but some prefer to cut with scissors, trying to replicate a razored style.
Holy fu*%&ng Moly Jenny....small town Ohio here...average haircut $13-$18. High end $30 Average apartment monthy rent $400-$450. There are some things I like out here in the sticks! LOL
Seriously. My 1BR apartment is almost $2000 a month, and it's only 500 square feet (and that's a good deal, believe it or not, in Manhattan). It's cheaper in the outer boroughs--Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island--but still pricey compared to the rest of the country. It's a lot of fun to live here, but it's very hard financially, especially if you don't have a trust fund (which many people here do) or a job that pays you $100,000 plus.
This is another reason why I'm switching to synth....
