Well.......................................... I finally decided to take out these stupid Hairloc's and YEP! you guessed it! my hair is a complete disaster. I can't even believe the shape it's in. I never realized that the Hairloc's were doing as much damage as the Great Length's did, but now I know better. My hair is in such bad shape that I had to have it cut to my shoulders (and it used to be to the middle of my back). Going from 24 " hair to shoulder length is like a horrible nightmare and the worst part is that my hair is probably close to half the thickness it was previously. It's definitely time to hang up the extensions and work like hell getting my hair back to how it once was. Good luck to everybody wearing extensions! I'm gonna try and get some pictures on here so people can get the idea. Special thanks to Jenny RR and Kristen @ Hair Candy for all the help you have given me the past few months. Anybody have any suggestions what to do with ALOT of 18", 20" and 24" hair?????????

Awe, darlin!!!! I'm so sorry to hear that! Have you thought about maybe making yourself some hair clips? It would be a great way for you to get through this and not have to cut your hair.

Im sorry to hear Lisa :( Hair is definately a very personal thing and from what ive read on this board a lot of people have gone through a lot of horrible experiences =\ The only thing i can say is to maybe not give up hope yet, I havent even had ANY hair extensions put in yet *waiting for my plastikhaar to come in* but i dont know what i wouldve done if i hadnt read this board. Ive read that a lot of people have had horrible experiences with hairlocs and greatlengths but alot of these ladies found other healthier ways to achieve their looks through other methods. Maybe someone can give you advice on what method might not damage your hair...if you've seen kristins website she shows pictures of her beautiful healthy hair after she took out her hair extensions so it definately can be done : )

good luck with whatever choice you make!

What are you referring to when you say hair clips? And as far as the hair cut, well..................... it's already been done. There was no way I could go out of the house with the way that my hair looked.

Make yourself some clip in extensions that you can put in and out yourself each day. That way you can still wear extensions while your hair gets healthier.

There's a lot of info here about how to make clip ins.

Good luck, and sorry to hear about your hair.

Hey Lisa,

What happened with the hairlocs? Breakage underneath the loc, or some other kind of problem?

Anyway, I'm really sorry to hear about this. Making or buying clip-ins would probably be a good idea. I switched to pinchbraids after Hairlocs and GLs and haven't had any problems since, so that may be another option.

Did you end up buying all the extendtube supplies?

:)

Absolutely save the Hairlocs hair if it's still good. I've had mine for going on a year and it's still some of the best hair I have. (Which is a total fluke because Hairlocs is notorious for bad hair.)

I know this is a depressing time for you. Losing your own hair to a method that promises to be so safe is devestating. It's bad enough that it happens - it's worse when you're lied to about how good it will be to grow out your own hair. They are SO lying to the customers about this.

Everyone who has Hairlocs who comes to this board needs to have them ALL removed immediately to see what your own hair looks like. Hairlocs likes to advertise that they have a system that requires maintenance without a complete takedown of hair. The reason they do that is so the months go by and you NEVER see what it's doing to your entire head. You can never fully evaluate any extension system by removing a few strands here and there. They ALL need to come down for an evaluation.

Lisa, I too would like to know what Hairlocs did to your own hair. Was it a complete thinning where it pulled your hair out by the root or was it sheared underneath those copper locs?

I was talking about making youreslf some hair clips. You can take them on and off as you choose and they are the least damaging of all the methods IMO. I've got clips on my site if you need them. You can probably find them on Ebay too. They are easy to make.

You might get some hints from Kimbearly, I think she just made one.

You can make yourself some clips kinda like this:

You of course may need to vary the thickness, length and color....

Lisa, It is easy to make clip-ons from a weft but I am not sure what hairloc hair looks like. I wear my clip-ons every day and LOVE THEM

To make clips from the hairlocs hair, Lisa would need to get the hair made into wefts, I think, since those are individually pretipped extensions. But I agree: If you like the hair, don't throw it out. :)

I have to say this:

Lisa Lisa - My extreme condolences about your hair. After I had my Great Lengths removed the first time I was a bit shocked -- but I think part of it was that I was so accustomed to all that fabulous hair on my head. You are lucky that you obviously have the kind of hair that will grow (I mean it DID), so I KNOW it will come back, and probably even better.

A few things to try: Take DHEA and try Hair Vitamins. They really do work if your hair is disposed to growing.

For me, having the really crappy draw in the genetic hair pool, it just seemed like my roots showed more often and I had to get a bikini wax sooner, and the basic texture of my hair didn't change, but it did grow!

Hair Extensions have made all the difference for me because my hair really just SUCKS even when it's in the "best shape" it can be in.

Last night I laid in bed thinking of Jenny's PH and I went to sleep with such fine dreams of hair like that for me one day soon!!

I realized that even though I've been doing GL for the past 3 years, because of the expense, I haven't really even LOVED it for the past 2 years. THey get you SO BADLY that to get the amount of hair *I* would need, I'd have already been in bankruptcy.

Oh I'm rambling.

Hope y'all had a great Valentine's Day.

Love
Fina Fina
