QuoteReplyTopic: In search of master plan!!! Posted: March 05 2005 at 3:12pm
HI every one,I came across this mesage board a month ago and have been reading past and present mesages ever since. I am a stylist I have done extensions for 10 years and still have yet to find any thing I can stand behind 100%!!!!!Thanks to you guys I did order doctor locks shrinky's and tool. Thank you for saving me 1000 plus travle to see mark Barrington(the only source my ****). Last year I took a class from euro locks ther hair is horible it tangled while my cliants were just sitting there.I had them use the products they recomended still giant mats. Then I found micro links they slip and my cliants were use to fusion monkybarrz or keritin which did not slip but they loved the removal of the links (me to accetone gives me head aches!!!) Now Im useing short to long I have these in my own hair and I dont like this hair to dry! I put a couple shrinky's in to test but I could not get them to shrink small enough (useing pre tipped hair) so they are flat. this is not all bad because they lay flat to my head that way but I do wish they were more the size of the links. My master plan is to open a studio and offer afordable extensions that wont damage. Kudo's to thoughs of you who can do your own I can't eaven do that my arms would give out after three in the back lol.someone wrote about a place that sold the hair and shrinks to mark barrington I think it's extension plus with a permanit tip is this good hair I would love to know. I am hopefull that this method will be the answer to my prayers!! I would love to do pinch braids but after doing hair for twenty years brading and carpul tunnle dont mix!!!Thanks again to all of you I have allways said that I felt like I was on a desert island when it came to extensions. these companys train you take your cash and good luck when you have trouble. I felt like I have made it to the mainland!!!!!
PS. I allredy know my spelling sucks I'm an artis not an english teacher!!!lol
How does the short 2 long work for you? Is it similiar to the extendtubes or microlinks? I've read advertisment for this in American Salon and was curious. Thanks!
(my spelling sucks too!)
It is what it is...

I just went on the MB course two weeks ago and I do love that the Shrink Links are much smaller and when you cut them in half for the top and crown areas, they are almost undetectable. The seal seems to be a little more secure and I like that. Shrinkies are pretty darn cool for the DIY'ers!!
Metalgirl gets her hair from MB via EP. She said the quality is very good and I plan on buying my hair from there. Hopefully I can get some samples when I go there soon. I have not used the pre-tip hair they have, but I'm sure metalgirl might know of it.
Thanks for responding to my post and for wellcoming me! I do like the short to long better than the micro links because I think the slightly longer length makes it hold better and the shell is thiner, they dont discolor like the euro locks either .All so I love the threder they sell it's the same one euro uses you can put about 12 extends on each one so you dont have to keep putting them on one at a time I just pree string a bunch of them ahead of time its much easer than what doctored locks sent and can allso be used with micro links. I am sure it's some sort of craft thing but I looked at craft stores and they didn't know what it was.
I just saw your post save a stray, the hair I used with the micro links dose not have a permanit tip I know that most of the pre tip hair is actuall tipped with wax euro had chips to use to reboud the hair so you could reuse it. I have tryed other waxes and it never worked so I dont know what kind it is.
I really like the Mark Barrington Shrink Link method the best. I have used it for 5-6 years and worn it myself for about 3 years.
This is why I like it:
The shrink link, when heated shrinks down much faster and smaller than dr. locks shrinkies. They do stay in the hair quite well. I apply the heat for 10 seconds on each link, and it works great.
The hair, that they do get from Extensions Plus, is top quality hair. They carry Indian and European hair.
MB's 'perma tip' is pre-tipped with a bit of hard plastic on the end that doesn't melt under heat and prevents the hair from shedding. The hair is reusable and most of my clients use the same hair for 1-2 years before they need to repurchase more hair. I like the perma tip hair because I don't have to fool around with tipping the hair myself or messing with the 'shoe lace' tip hair which I find sheds a lot when applied with a shrink link.
This method doesn't cause breakage. I actually have had clients able to grow their natural hair out to a decent length with these extensions in.
I have to pipe in that i ended up buying the doclocs shrinkies because after a month of sending e-mails, I couldn't get anyone from Mark Barrington to talk to me. Seriously, I would send a query, receive an e-mail asking me to verify my license and salon and then i'd get no response. So then I'd send a query, and receive a reply asking me to verify my license... yada yada yada. Metal girl, do you have a phone number I can call? Have you had an easy time dealing with them? I am tempted to think my illiteracy on the comp. is partially to blame.

I don't think they travel themselves Bridget. They sent me discount hotel accommodation info, as they thought I was coming from New York (where my license is still valid). I would have had to travel myself but got lucky they did one course in Woodland Hills.......25 minutes away from my house!! The course price is now $1175, that includes a kit.

Marie, I've never seen this site before! Thanks! Those shrinkies are alot smaller and longer than the dr locs. I like the fun colors for the micro rings too.
I started to order them once but had a problem ,they need a international access code I found out from the phone company I have to call china and get it from them. I then found doctored locks so I didn't get the code I guess I will now.

Marie87, those tubing pieces from cableorganizer are way overpriced when you include the shipping and they do not perform like shrinkies. I have the same thing and now it sits here unused. You can still use it to hold some wires together though.
Just a reminder: Some of the generic shrink-tubings are not lined with an adhesive surface. Unless they do contain that adhesive (which for Doc's shrinkies is apparently Keratin glue), they will not stay in the hair. Based on everything I've read, the shrinking pressure is not enough to yield a good hold; there must also be some glue to prevent slipping. :)
