OK, I've been reading this forum for a couple of weeks now to get some ideas. I am so impressed with the wealth of knowledge from everyone here.
With that said I need some advice ~ I had been growing my hair out for about six months when I had to go to the Midwest Beauty Show in Chicago for work. One of the judges insisted on trying a new cut out on me, I agreed when he told me that he wouldn't take any length off (just texturize it) - I know I should of known better!!! what was I thinking! So.... now I want extensions. From reading other threads I think I want to try Shrinkies so I can do it myself. I may have this all wrong but I was thinking of pre-tipping myself with the Liquid Gold and then using Shrinkies - any suggestions on where to buy hair wholesale and would this work with Synthetic like WaWa or PH?? I need help! My hair is about four inches on top (but I have a s*** load of it) and it is a disconnected cut so I think the blending would be easier.

I have never installed myself but I have worn weft and I picked at it too much so I wanted to try a strand by strand method

Suggestions?????

Hi Laura, and welcome!

I think pretipping hair with LG and using shrinkies will be great. Yes, you can use WaWa or Plastikhaar if you want synthetic. There's no reason you can't use synth with shrinkies, just be careful not to get the heat wand on it. I think synth is better for your first strand-by-strand effort because if it doesn't turn out right, you won't have wasted the boatload of money required for human hair.

I don't know much about wholesalers....except Plastikhaaar (www.plastikhaar.ch/wholesale). WaWa is available from a few online sellers; I think there's one on Ebay that's one of the cheapest.

Laura R, I was at the Chicago show with some girlfriends, we were remeniscing about the one time (different occasions) when we all let some joker cut our hair at the show.
The worst was my friend denise who let the Wahl clipper people work on her....
So sorry, I feel your pain.
Why don't you check out Rae's website. She does a lot of kinds of extensions and seems like she really knows her stuff. I also think her prices are really reasonable. her website hairalchemy.com is listed on the 101 link at the top of the list.
I promise I don't get a kickback.
Otherwise, people seem to really swear by the microlinks method and DocLocs Shrinklinks for DIY. I'd also say, glued wefts are easy-peasy if you have a good strong head of hair. peace.

Hi Laura, and welcome!

Ditto: Chicago is "Rae country." She offers several strand-by-strand methods, so you may want to hit her up. Otherwise, your DIY plan sounds great too. There's lots of info here about how to do shrinkies and how to care for synth.

Good luck, and keep us posted! :)

Thanks for the advice everyone! I live in Seattle so that is why I am trying to do it myself - I can't find anyone who does it around here.

Anyone know if the WaWa comes longer than the 14in (that is all I can find)

That's so funny--where the hell did I get Chicago from? (Oh, I guess from the hair show.)

And yes, check out Boogiemama! If you go to her, you MUST post pics--we love seeing her work on these boards!

Good luck! :)
