Shrinkies use a whole lot less glue than fusion because most of the work is being done by the pressure of the ring holding everything together. The glue is just to keep it from slipping. When you remove shrinkies, the extension hair will come out easy and you'll just have a little bit of glue residue on your hair.
A shrinkie is a small plastic tube that shrinks down about half its size or more when its heated. It has an inner core of adhesive that keeps in in place on your hair. If its done right with the right equipment it dosnt melt into your hair.
Well...here's the thing: I can certainly see why shrinkies are set apart from fusion (because of the shrinking factor and the smaller amount of glue used). But I think it's a little misleading to say that the glue doesn't melt into your hair. If you're heating the shrinkie and it's lined with glue and your real hair's underneath it, the glue will melt into your hair; I don't see how it couldn't, which is why you'll have the residue on removal.
Done correctly, of course, the plastic tubing shouldn't melt into the hair, but the shrinkies wouldn't even stay put if it weren't for that adhesive glue lining.
I think the tension of the "shrinking" is a key part of the equation, but I do think the glue is equally important.
Does anyone remember mention of shrinkies being a problem to remove? Any horror stories? So much information goes by, it's hard to keep it straight. Please please please pipe up if so. Or if anyone remembers a thread. thanks
Well, overall I think the reviews have been much more positive than negative. AMM and Amanda, in particular, have used them numerous times with great success. Most of the problems with shrinkies seem to be a matter of not getting the shrink to reduce in size enough or not being uniform. My results, and a few others', have been inconsistent, but by no means bad. That said, I've used all the proper tools; it may just be a matter of further experimentation.
I think I've heard a few cases of significant slippage and two cases of very difficult removal, one of which was Emma's. Don't know where that thread is though.
Ive had no problems at all with removal. Im on my second test run with shrinkies. The first time I lost quite a few after a few weeks. It seems like the majority of the ones I lost was right about 3 weeks. This test run is doing much better. Ive lost 1 in 2 weeks and the rest seem pretty secure with the exception of a few. The first run alot of them were not secure to start with. This time I heated them longer and I think I got more of a 'feel' for them. I could tell just by the feel of them if I was getting them shrunk down properly. Still not as successful as I would like but I think the next time will be better, I think its a trial and error thing and getting the shrink time right.
Hi there chick, what I do is when I've done a row of shrinkies I go back to the beginning of the row and feel them all and check that they are rock hard. If not then I heat that particular one a little bit more. I had the client come back to me last night who had had 9 come out in a week, about 4 I'd say were natural slippage because they only had a tiny amount of hair attached to them, the other 5 were quite obviously the client not brushing as I'd told her to, which she admitted that she had just brush straight from root to tip when wet. These 5 had her actually hair in them so she'd ripped her own hair out at the root. Obviously I fitted them all back in and sent her away with a slapped bottom. No honestly, I reiterated the importance to her of being very very careful when brushing them when her hair was wet. I think when somebody has never had extension in before its easy for them to brush their hair like they do their normal hair and forget to hold the roots and work up xxxx
