Here is my saga: I had finally grown my hair out, it was virgin, undamaged natural hair. My husband talked me into getting highlights. My hair being fine and thin basically was bleached white after taking the highlighting cap off. It was sick. After a couple of months, the roots poured in dark brown. My hairdresser talked me into dying it all back brown and rehighlighting it. Talk about disaster!!!! Well this went on for months, highlights, lowlights, fryed hair. I finally got it all chopped off and am starting over. I now have a very layered cut about 2 - 3 inches long all over my head. I desperately want long hair again!!!! I joined this list to get the support to do so. I am hair obsessed and jealous of every lovely long head of hair that I can see!! My hair looks horrible and I don`t know how to cope with it for the next couple of years without damaging it again with styling tools, color etc..........I desperately need tips, suggestions and encouragement. THanks for listening!

My hair is very damaged, and about 4 inches from my waist. I get jealous when i see beautiful long hair too! Just start babying your hair, no heat styling, no dye`s, no highlights. Just let it go natural. Just think of the ruslts you will have, beautiful healthy long hair. Do hot oil treatments and leave in treatments. Here is a good website you can get some GREAT advice from.... www.longhairlovers.com The women and men there are very supportive and will help you.
Long, red, slightly wavy hair. Trying to go grow very long! It`s about 3.75in. from my belt now :)
OMG!! I know what you mean! I get jealous of long haired people too. I just sit and stare at them with envy.. then quickly come back to reality and get depressed cause my hair isn`t like theres lol. ecckk lol
My hair is shoulder length... it`s a little damaged at the ends but not to bad. I`m trying to grow mine to about mid-back. It`s taking forever! I guess mostly because I look at it every mourning expecting to see some major difference (haha when I know it won`t be longer) For now I just have to take my vitamins, eat right... and lay off all those heating products and my hair will do better! It`s just so hard to not blow dry my hair or curl it. I go to college and I like to have my hair cute.. and full of volume.. well, you know! lol

I went through a lot to grow my hair long. In 1992, I got a spiral perm which wrecked about my hair when my hair was about 20 inches long. I vowed then never to perm my hair again. I think it comes down to which you want more... I know some people like to perm and relax and color. Some hair can handle all that, but when you`re trying to grow three or four feet of hair, it needs to be as undamaged as possible. I know with short hair you`ll have to blow-dry... I had to when my hair was short, but my advice is to deep-condition it at least once a week, air dry it as often as possible, use those thermal-activated conditioning products, and try to get a really good haircut that you don`t have to use a lot of styling tools and products on.
I truly know how it feels. I had boy-short hair through my childhood and shoulder-length hair during my teen years and I ALWAYS wanted long hair. Even now, with it tailbone-length (41.5"), I want it longer and envy people with longer hair than mine. You`ll get through it... just be patient! (I know about patience... my hair grows about 3 inches a year!)
20/42/as long as it will get 2b/Red

I am trying not to blow dry. It is indeed very difficult because my hair looks so homely! I played around with it and it doesn`t look too bad pulled off of my face with a headband. I kinda like it, it seems longer! Anyway, I thought I could wear it like this for a while until it gets longer. Maybe focus on makeup and some pretty earrings....at least I won`t be damaging it this way. Thanks everybody for replying!
