I went to a hairdresser to have my hair put up. she was very good and presented herself to know how to deal with straight asian hair. and she put my hair up!! she suggested that i have a perm to put some body into it.

About 2 months later, (yesterday), i decided to do this. At this point, i have had my hair colored and highlighted. and some roots were growing in so a hairdresser can tell this was processed hair. i asked if my hair was going to "poofe out" and she said "no this will just give your hair body some wave."

She put the solution on for about 5 minutes at the most and rinsed it out. i can see that my haircolor was already lightened from what i walked in there with. assuming that it`s because the solution stripped the color out of my hair.

when i feel my hair it was dry and brittle and corse and immediately i washed my hair and slopped tons of conditioners in it. today, i finally applied conditioner after my hair was dry from washing it and left it in. it was still brittle so i put baby oil into my hair. that tamed it some what.

What can i do to remove this perm from my hair? i`m about as desperate as i can be!

Sleepy, the best thing you can do is to go buy a perm solution at the local drugstore and put the solution in and comb your hair straight, keep combing it straight and then when the time is up,go ahead and put the nuetralizer on it. That should straighten it back out for you. I hope your hair isn`t too damaged.

lisa,

what if it is damaged? so far, the local beauty supply told me to put these hot oil treatments and that ion hair treatment pack on my hair and said that do that for about 3 days to get my hair back to somewhat of a good condition to "color" my hair so that i can at least fill in what the perm has taken out. that possibly this may help the hair.

is there any type of perm that won`t damage my hair at this point?

I don`t know about the different types. I do know that I have had to do this, it was a long time ago though. I have learned to like my straight hair. If it is damaged, then you will probably have to cut it and then go from there. Right now my hair is damaged due to coloring disasters from last summer. I am almost to the point of healthy hair, and have gotten there by slowly trimming of the damaged areas. I know condition after shampooing and again with a leavi in conditioner. My hair is almost back in perfect shape and I still highlight it. I finally broke down and went to a color specialist.

Ugh...It is a nightmare when this happens.
You got some good advice here though...let`s recap.
First thing I would do is assess just how much damage was done to your hair, before you even start putting another perm on and combing thru .(Though this helps straighten- it is adding more chemicals when u really don`t need them)...no need to add insult to injury. I ask you this, when your hair is wet, does it feel `gummy`? I hope you know what i mean by that...When it is dry is it just frizz?? If so then u probably need to cut - like with anything else, once hair is dead there is no bringing it back... On the other hand, If the hair isn`t in that bad of condition, just a little frizzy I would suggest bypassing the second application of perm solution- deal with the waves- you condition the h*ll out of it and get one of those hair polishers- you know an anti frizz serum. They work wonders. Put that on with your hair damp, let it mostly air dry - then use a blow dryer if neccessary- when ur hair is dry then smooth a little more on.
This will allow for your hair to look healthy while you are restoring it. Hope it helps.

my hair is asian hair, as i`m chinese. so when it`s wet, it deosn`t really feel gummy, only when i leave a bit of the conditioner on it. when it`s dry, it`s fizzy... very very dry.

i will try and manage with this mop for the next couple of weeks and condition the heck out of it. then i`ll try the straightening process.... i HATE my hair now... augh

thanx for the advice. you`ve all been very very helpful

u cannot "remove" a perm

it has to grow out :S

WHATEVER U DO DO NOT CHEMICALLY STRAIGHTEN IT : UR LIFE WILL BE A LIVING HELL LIKE MINE IS NOW, WELL, WAS TIL I DISCOVERED DIS:
im half asian so i know how lovely our natural hair is, i wanted those spiral curls like Melanie B (SCARY SPICE GIRLS) u said also, but she gave me a silly natural big curls which looked silly :(( i had a VERY hard time dealing with it, and then i chemically straightened it again.
This resulted only in me having to cut my hair very short :(( Get this instead: (if ur in the UK, i think its in US also, and other coutnries, but u will only find it in PROFESSIONAL HAIRDRESSERS.:

i permed my hair twice
its terribly frizzy and unmanageably dry and damaged yer

i recommend EVErYONE who has damaged hair to use Kerastase products
this is the first time i used it today, and cow me, my hair`s georgiously soft!
it feels like when its been blowdried!

get it! its unreal! :D:D:D::D:D:D::D:D
:|

ps. KERASTASE products were specifically created for frizzy dry damaged hair, so it will do wonders for urs! :P
