need help quick!!!

hi, my name is angie and i am new here....ok, about 5 months ago i used clairol lasting color, black. my hair is naturally a soft brown with auburn highlights. To get to the point, whereas my hair should have washed out in 24 shampoos(as the box says), like i said, it has been 5 months and it is still black!! my roots have grown out in my natural color, and in some areas my natural color is coming back, but about 98% of my hair is still black. Yesterday, i decided to go to longs and purchase the loreal haircolor remover kit, and also bought another box of clairol lasting color, this time in my natural shade. My question, is should i attempt this? I am not working right now, so going to the salon is impossible!! Also, my hair is in good condition, in fact it has never dried out on me before, not after perming or coloring it. I bought a thick conditioner for overstressed hair for afterwards, is there anything else i could use to prevent damage? Thanks for listening, and please reply soon!!!
