I need some ideas on how to get through the rough times growing my hair out. currently it is in a Dorothy Hamill style and I'm getting a perm Friday. That is my first step to grow it out. I tend to lose patience growing it and ending up getting it chopped. Any ideas??

Measure your hair every month! This might seem like a pain, but if you tend to get fed up it might help remind you that even though your hair's growing slowly, it's still growing. It's just kind of a fun thing to do to, and you can keep track of how much it grows every month too.

When I was growing my hair out, it was great when I could finally pull it back. I wore it up a lot and kind of forgot about it. Eventually, I noticed it was getting longer.

Measuring is good too. Also avoid unnecessary trims. Hair grows an average of 6 inches a year, so try not to cut too much of the new growth off. I don't know how long you are wanting to grow it, but visiting a long hair site might help. http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/ is a good place to start.

I'vebeen grwoing my hair out for exactly one year this week--Happy Anniversary to me!!! Several things have helped me. First, I found and cut out a couple of pics of what I was going for--my goal. Also, I use headbands to hold it all back, out of my face--out of sight, out of mind. And often, I let it dry for awhile w/ a headband on, to "train" it to stay out of my eyes. Then I take the headband off and finish air-drying it and it turns out fine. And learn to appreciate those curls, cause you'll find that a lot of people will be jealous of them as they start growing out. What I love about growing out curly hair, too, is that on a day when it's all wild and crazy-looking, I just pretend I meant it to be that way. People w/ straight hair can't get by with that. Don't give up!
