QuoteReplyTopic: Nightmares and long hair... Posted: January 28 2001 at 10:59pm
I admit, I am obsessed and now I know it.
Last night I had nightmares about my hair. I woke exhausted! In one I was trying to put it up in a ponytail. It hurt my arm and my shoulder. I couldn`t get my hand around it and it kept falling out so I couldn`t get an elastic around it. I was crying because it hurt so bad and I had to have my hubby fix it for me. (After the accident I couldn`t take care of myself. My 6 yr old son fed me for 6 months I lived on pb&j and burnt frozen waffles.) The other one, we were in a large city on a crowded side walk and people kept stepping on it. I started screaming at people and I wrapped it around my neck. People were laughing at me.
My hair right now is only 2 inches below my shoulders but it used to be long enough that I could braid it and tuck it in my back pocket. It was also so thick that a hair elastic would only go around my ponytail once - twice if I was lucky.
When I was I was dating my ex hubby (bad omen here I should have known), our pastor had commented on my beautiful long hair. My ex said "Yes, she takes good care of my hair for me doesn`t she?" Needlesstosay, I was infuriated and the pastor was offended. I am not one to be controlled. 5 salons and two towns later (no one would cut it all off) I had shaved spiked bleached hair. Had a Billy Idol thing going on. (Hey, it was the 80s!) He didn`t talk to me for two weeks.
Since I had my son, my hair has lost about half of it`s thickness. I have had it down to bra strap length several times and everytime he would say something about it I would cut it off again. I would also color it dark brown instead of leaving it blonde just to let him know I was in control of my hair and everything else.
I finally left in 97 and was in the process of growing it out again. It was about 2 inches above bra when I had my accident and had to cut it off (again). Now, I have specific exercises worked into physical therapy so I can grow it out again. Is that dedicated or what? It doesn`t grow as fast as it used to and its not as thick. I think a lot of that has to do with my meds and pain level.
My new hubby is wonderful and also has long hair. His attitude is "I don`t care if you dye it purple, it`s your hair." So, here we go. We are racing to the butt to see who can get the hair longest first. He will probably win bc he is only 5`5 and I am 5`10. mine has farther to go.
This past weekend he put black 24 shampoos hair color on his hair. Didn`t change his color much, just covered his grey. I put a 24 shampoos gold color on mine. We both liked it. My hair wasn`t lightened out any, it just deposited gold on my hair and really stood out on my highlights. We both liked it and will probably do it again soon. It gives me a chance to "do something different" and get a different look without drastic changes like a new cut or permanent color, also lengthens the time between highlights.
just my two cents....ok 25... but thanks for reading1

Hey Trix, I dream about my hair also, but it`s usually a good dream. I dreamed 2 nights ago, that my hair was long, down to my bra strap, and had a slight curl to it. It was really neat, since my hair is just down on my collar and is layered:( Those kind of dreams make me anxious for my long hair back. We were watching old home movies the other night and there I was with the long hair. Aaaarrrrggghhhhh, why did I cut it??!!! Cannot figure that one out. Sorry about your accident. Sounds like you`ve got a great hubby there. Where did you get the 24 shampoo thing? I`ve never heard of it. Well, take care and I hope that you don`t have anymore nightmares.......Meg
clairol natural instincts washes out in 24 shampoos. I got Sahara.
I think my nightmares were my subconcious tellling me i am an idiot for trying to grow it out. Every time the focus that I remember was on how much my neck/right shoulder/back were hurting. Sad thing, my neck is already hurting in reality from the weight of my hair and it`s not that long yet.
Hubby is great. I dont take him for granted because I know what the other side of the coin is like.
I am right where you are. I get really irritated at myself everytime I see video of duane when he was a baby and I see how long my hair was. Then I think about my state of mind at the time and realize I would have still cut it off in hindsight.
In either case, no matter what I did back then, I would have had to cut it because of the accident. That helps me stay sane somewhat.
I take prenatal vitamins, extra B vitamin complex for the folic acid, and EFAs with emu oil. In addition to that, I am taking herbal muscle/bone/cartilage rebuilder for my injuries. The efas are for my hair and for healing. I think I have very healthy hair because of it. I ran out of HF37 and thought I needed to start on the PN vitas anyway. I am going to compare the two and possibly switch back to the HF37. Like Karen, my hair doesn`t grow faster, but it does seem to get thicker when I am taking it. I notice more new growth and also my hair seems more resistant to damage.
Since you are regretting your decision, HF37, EFAs or atleast extra Biotin might be worth checking into.

yes foxfan318 please check into biotin it will help the hair grow faster. My mother used to take gelatine that really thicken her hair. She noticed a difffience very quickly. I am sure if you happen to ask a health food store for something that act the same way as gelatine they would be able to help because gelatine didn`t taste good.
on the nightmares things I watched jaws and guess whicm mammal I was dreaming of and woke up in a sweat?lol
Good Point!! thank you.... actually, biotin is in one of the suppliments I am already taking. I was suggesting the biotin for Meg. I never thought of taking it separately to boost things a bit. You did bring up a good point, too thanks! :)
but since you brought up gelatin.... when I was a kid I was sick all the time -- bronchitis, strep, mono... you name it I had it. Being asthmatic with smoking parents didn`t help either. I ate ALOT of Jello and ice cream! (I also had awesome hair) oh the wheels are turning.
Jaws! oy! I saw that movie once and that`s all it took. I had nightmares too. Hubby`s nightmares these days are about crashing planes. He has a deathly fear of flying and has bought a flight sim game. Thinking is if he understands what is going on in the cockpit he will do better when he is actually a passenger. Only problem is he keeps crashing the simulator which is only making things worse. Go figure. I think it was a good thought in theory tho! LOL
