Well, box braids is when the base or beginning of the braid is formed into a square. From the square you might add the extension or begin braiding.

Box braids are 4 strand braids. You can either braid the einire length with 4 strands or you can switch over to the 3 strand one the extension "takes hold"

Box braids are braids that have a square base. In Chicago, they signify a lower quality job. An excellent braider will use triangles (or half boxes), so the braids layer in a way that the parts are hidden.
