QuoteReplyTopic: Pressing Natural Hair Posted: July 24 2002 at 4:48pm
I was just wondering if I press my hair with wilgrowth oil, will it look like Ive had a perm? I have type 4a hair and it`s really coarse and dry. I refuse to get a perm because I really want to stay natural. Thanks for any replies.
No if you press your hair with wildgrowoil, it wont look like a perm. I press my hair with wildgrowthoil all the time and it makes my hair straight, i hope this helps. Also remember to make sure you have your pressing comb on low heat so it dosent damange your hair

Use a hair product with thermal heat protection that contains silicones[silicones end in the word cone]which protects hair from heat damage because it seals and smoothes hair's cuticles layers.Overuse of silicones can cause buildup[residue]
i can get the results that look like a perm and i have extremely f=dry coarse hair...you want to begin with your shampoo try adding essential oils to the bottle [we must infuse moisture, moisture, moisture], use a good conditioner, and before drying [blow drying aids in the straightening process] add more oils [like pantene for women of color or optimum oild therapy....honestly, if you aregoing fot the perm look, i wouldnt recommend adding oil while pressing [especially grease]...but if you are going for the 1950s press look have fun with the grease...an essential ingredient is also the tool and the technique...ceramic tools are wonderful..there is the chi on the market for ~130.00 goldnhot has a nice one for about ~45...now i had relatively long hair when i began using is & i thought i needed wider plates...i've actually found that thinner plates [1/2 inch or so] are much better than the 2inch .....now the technique...part small sections of hair...somepoeple begin at the back [nape] while others part the hair into 4 sectiions[as if relaxing] and part one tiny row at a time [i prefer the 4 sections]
after all sections are done, apply essential oils [loose free-flowing..no cremes here (that was for drying)], and wrap the hair....if you want curls roll the hair (dry or MINIMAL setting lotion - - preferrably foam) as if roller setting sit under hood for 10 min or if u dont have a hood hold hand dryer 6 inches away, then wrap the hair..[never 4get the essential oils...some brands: kemy oil, bronner brothers, olive oil, progfective, keraCare
this may sound like a lot of heat to some but remember its only every two weeks [NOT daily and not weekly] and it should be preceeded by a proper shampoo [preferably diluted with a bit of water and essential oils] and a thorough conditioner...also ceramic plates are more smoothing and less damaging than metal plates
