Hi Londa

I can relate to what you are saying. My hair has been like that since I had my second child and I stopped taking birth control pills (Dianette) because I thought it was causing my hair fall out. I went to see a dermatologist who signed me of last October and said there's nothing he could do but indicated that I had a bit of scarring on the scalp. I have been natural for 6 years now.

About 3 weeks ago I went to see a trichologist, who asked me several questions about my diet and periods. Since I had the second child my periods have gone somewhat funny that the Doctor had put me on HRT.At first it seemed to rectify it but last year I was on for weeks at a time (sometimes 3 weeks). However, the trichologist told me that I am more than likely anaemic even though my blood test shows normal which I can believe. Apparently, your serum ferritin range is suppose to about 70 for your hair to thrive. He has told me to eat more read meat, take iron tablets with Vit C, Vit B12 and Lysine. Its early days yet but the shedding is slowing down abit. I will see him in 3 months time. By they way he also prescribed Minoxidil and estrogen lotion for my scalp.

Keep your chin up
Marsha

Dear Londa
I`m very sorry to hear about your hair. When you start taking any birth control pill or injection, your B-vitamins levels and your zinc levels go down, there are involved with. So I suggest that you give yourself least three months to get yourself back in order. First get yourself a good multivitamin and mineral, make sure it contains Iron and Zinc, take high dosage B-complex for at least three months, which I think is 100mg, then after three months go on to 50 mg, take Evening Primrose 10000 mg, MSM 1000 mg, when you start to take MSM, you may find that you get a lot of spots, but keep on after awhile your faces clears. Flaxseed oil 1000mg, Vitamin E and take at least 5 mg of Biotin, I would suggest for yourself 20mg (because you are taking a birth control) and 1000 mg of B5 known as Panothenic Acid, which as Galye said will thicken up your hair, and will make your hair stronger, also you can crush the B5 tablets and to your conditioners, shampoos and rinses, because it will bind to your hair. Drink plently of water, the good thing about B-vitamins is that they are water soluble, you body on takes what it needs and the rest is execreted. So there is not risk of overdose. I hope that has helped you. Good Luck

This web site: http://motowngrl.8m.net/regimen.html has a page about supplements and said you can take Panthoneic Acid or vitamin B5 to help thicken your hair. That site has been a Godsend to me and my hair had improved 150% over the last year or so. if you try it let us know how it works. - Gayle

Hi everyone,

I`ve been trying to find some help for the longest time about my thinning hair. I first noticed my hair was thinning about 4 years ago, a few months after my second kid was born. I was on a new birth control at that time - DepoProvera. Some of you probrably heard of it - that birth control shot? I was taking it for about a year. Then I heard that it can sometimes cause hair loss, so I stopped taking it. My hair did seem to stop shedding, and thickened up A LITTLE BIT after that. But not much.

It`s been over 4 years and I`m still fighting thinning hair. About 10 months ago, I got fed up and decided to go natural. I figured that maybe it was the overprocessing and heat damage that was preventing my hair from growing back to it`s previous thickness. No such luck, once again, my hair did seem to thicken up a little more,

(My hair was seriously thinned when I had the relaxer: REALLY bad! You could see my scalp through my hair even from the sides. I kept my head under a hat or scarf!)

But, it is still really thin. Especially right on top. My hair is also very fine. Natural! It`s more wavy than curly, and at the nap of my neck, you`d swear that I still had relaxer in, even though I had that part shaved bald, because I didn`t believe that was my natural hair. I thought my hair wasn`t growing at all back there! (You see, I had a relaxer in my head since about 11, and I don`t remember if my hair was always this fine or not.)

I can`t even wear my hair in natural styles like twists, and knots because my hair is so thin that the styles don`t look right. They make me look bald. A bunch of you seem to know a lot about hair, so if you have ANY insight on my problem, or what I can do to thicken up my hair I would be eternally grateful!

Peace.
