What do you guys know about taking black currant oil? I heard that is it supposed to be good for hair growth? I saw some at GNC but am wondering if it is the best quality there?

Hi,

Black Current is a wonderful oil for both internal and external use for hair, skin and overall health. It is hard to know the quality of the GNC brand. One key is whether it is refrigerated or not? This makes a difference in how fast the oil can "age". You can ask the GNC folks if there is a freshness mark on the bottle which shows how long it has been on the shelf. I try to only buy my oils from health food stores that refrigerate them. I know for a fact that some of the companies that sell oils and certain acidophilous formulas will not let retailers carry the products unless they are certified for having proper refrigeration units.

HB.com went through that a year ago. I found an incredible product from Jarrow but unless we guaranteed shipment in a refrigeration truck or similar carrier, we could not get certified to sell the products. Jarrow is top of the line along with Natrol.

I was very impressed with their rigid shipping restrictions and so now I buy their acidolphilus products and oils with complete confidence.

This is not to say that the GNC is not good, just do so homework and make sure you get the best product you can.

Best wishes,
Karen
