Hi, I am Asian male and have stick-straight hair. My problem is that it is so straight that it tends to stick up in the back. I want it to lay more flat against my scalp. My stylist suggested that I relax my hair, but I tired to find info on relaxing hair for people who already have straight hair, but I couldn't find anything. Is it the same process and relaxing for curly hair? And will relaxing it actually make the hair lay more flat?

So that you know, the word hair “Relaxer” has the connotation of sodium hydroxide or guanidine calcium hydroxide; the chemical ingredient in the hair relaxer product. While hair “Straightener” has the connotation of ammonium thioglycolate; the chemical ingredient in the hair straightening product.

Your stylist is absolutely right, but do NOT use sodium hydroxide or guanidine calcium hydroxide. Your best choice is to Go with ammonium thioglycolate.

Your hair situation is called “Cuticle Modification” – Clients with compact cuticle (Asian and Indian clients) may be texturized to modify the cuticle structure and make it more pliable. This makes the hair easier to control and allows for more style variation.

My Website www.verticalsinhair.com has much information on hair and permanent hair straightening.

This link will take you directly to your specific subject http://www.verticalsinhair.com/conventional.shtml

Most important, make sure that the stylist is an expert in the field of permanent hair straightening. Once again my Website will help you enhance your knowledge.

You're very welcome!

Once you get the Cuticle Modification, your next project is to use professional acid balanced hair care products. Also, it will be good of you to post the results.

Thank you,
