I have nails that are rough and brittle. I dont get lots of time on them and I want to grow them out. I paint them often because I like to have somthing on my nails. Do any of you have idias to help me smooth my nails and get them longer?

There's this stuff called formula 2, or something like that, and it's by Nailtiques. It's pretty expensive but I had a friend that used it everyday and her nails are so awsome she looks like she has acrylics! The only drawback is that you have to be VERY dedicated and apply one coat EVERY day. I bought the stuff but I've never noticed the benefits because I would use it for about three days and then forget.

If you have not actually seen the persons nails before the jello or any treatment, I would take it as a grain of salt. Truth is more than likely they have good genes. Although I am not saying the treatments don't help, some do. But most people with good nails somes from good genes. Mine are fabulas!! And I give all the credit to good blood lines (genes) I put my nails through the worse elements, shampooing, perms, bleaches, haircolors, and of course household cleaners. I just trim them every two weeks and file and I always keep polish on them, I get asked all the time "are those your nails?" I always answer "Its a gift from God"

My mom eats carrots everyaday and her nails grow long and are real strong. The thing with carrots is they taste nasty but they contain keratin and keratin is found in your nail bed. The other option is if your not into eating carrots all day, do like me and take 2 BetaCarotene and Vitamin E vitamins a day. They help my nails grow also,BetaCarotene can be found at WalMart or any drugstore and carrots are everywhere.

Carrots dont contain Keratin - they contain carotene.  And vitamins dont help your nails grow.

Yea vitamins help your nails grow because mine have grown because I started taking vitamins and either way carotene or keratin, same difference! Mine nails have never grown until I started taking vitamin E and my beta carotene so maybe it's a jinx on you that it doesn't work.

Im not trying to fight with you.  I am a nail professional who has studied nail anatomy and I can tell you without a doubt that vitamins do not make your nails grow!  There is less than 1/10% vitamins in your nails that unless you have a severe deficiency, there is nothing vitamins will do for you.  And keratin is a protein, carotene -as in beta carotene - is a precursor to vitamin C.  Not the same a t all.
