QuoteReplyTopic: Natural Curls...on one side only Posted: March 24 2005 at 2:00pm
My hair on the side of my head is currently down to my chin and has a
rather anoyying feature. It curls to the left on one side only. This
results in my hair being flat on the right side and sticking out on the
left side. This does look pretty strange as I'm sure you can imagine.
I
do not know what to do about this! I am growing my hair at the momment
so Im hoping that once it has grown a bit more, it will weigh my hair
down more and the curl should become pulled flat. Is this likely? If
not, what options do I have!? I have tried hair straighteners but I do
not like my hair completly flat as it makes my head look very small.
You mean it has a whole curl, or it just flips upward on one
side? Mine used to do that when it was between chin and shoulder
length (flip up on one side that is). Mostly I didn't worry about
it, since it resting on my shoulder was what made it do it, I knew it
would pass when it grew. If I felt like messing with it,
sometimes when it was wet I'd try to flip the other side up too and
have a flip do. If you prefer it the other way, you can blow dry
it and turn it under as you do. You can use a little mousse to
help it hold or use a curling iron to curl it under. All of these
things aren't that great for hair, but they'll get you past this point
if it really bugs you. Once its a little past shoulder length, it
likely won't do it anymore.

Do you sleep predominantly on your right side? If so, that may
help explain why your hair is flatter on the right side; you may want
to flip your hair up above the pillow - there may still be a flat spot
above your ear, but hopefully the rest of the strands will retain their
curl.
But as Susan says, I believe that in time (as your hair grows longer)
the weight of your hair will relax the curl somewhat all around, and
the look may become more symmetrical.

The hair on the right side of my head has a wave at the bottom, while the left side does not. It makes my ends look a little unevenly trimmed.
I just noticed this when I was looking to see if the wave on the right side curled in the opposite direction as the left. I'm catching on, but it's a slow process.

Is the thickness the same on either side? One side of my hair is
slightly wavier and less thick than the other; I find that parting
slightly off-center helps that.
Monica: Isn't there any way that you could look at this as flattering? I mean, she's doing this to be more like you. Rachel: Well, then, couldn't she have just copied my haircut?
