Hi, my hair is about a centimetre from my shoulders and really uneven (I had it spikey in the back and trying to grow it out) I couldn't wait to be able to put it in a ponytail, but now that I can just get it up, I realized it looks ridiculous. I have a rounder shaped face and when I pull my hair back, I look bald! Does any one have any ideas of simple updos I could do with my hair until it gets longer? I can't wait to have long hair again, but until it's about a foot longer I would like it to stay out of my face.

I remember that growing-out stage and it was awful. I have a very round face too, but it probably doesnt look as bad as you think it does. I find and have heard that when you bring attention higher up on your head, it is flattering for round faces as well as long straight hair which is supposed to make the face look more in proportion (you'll be there soon enough!). Anyways, is your hair light or dark? If it's really light, maybe you could do a temporary color to make it more visible when it's up, or put some highlights or something to give it depth. When I was growing mine out, I would put it in a half-ponytail do with my bangs and sides up and the rest down. Or I would wear a headband (probably out of style, but I love how it keeps your hair out of your face) or a barette(s) in it. Maybe use some of those tiny clip things and do some rows on top with them .
Did you see 30 Going on 13 with Jennifer Garner? She had this really cut updo kind of look on her shoulder length hair. I saw her wear a similar style in a recent Alias episode.
What her style looked like:
She had side swept fringe and long angled strands around her face and then it looked like her hair had been separated into random 1/2 - 3/4 sections all along the front, sides and back. Each section looked like it had been twisted...almost into a Zulu knot style and then was anchored with hairsticks and then each of the sticks crisscrossed other sticks. It looked amazing.
If you didn't want to do all the different hairsticks, you could still do random twisted Zulu knots around your head and maybe leave a nice frontal fringe to minimize your round face and then as Terri suggested, maybe leave part of the hair up and part down. You could pin the knots in place with tiny alligator/jaw clips.
And headbands are very very hot right now. They were the rage at the recent Prada fashion shows and at the various award shows like the Oscars. So go ahead and use headbands and hair clips.
Terri I think you are right, I think it looks worse that it actually does, I am so used to having my hair hug my face that it was a shock to see my entire face!
I tried both of your ideas, I got some medium sized jaw clips (should have gotten large, I didn't realize my hair was so thick!) But I put all of my hair up (except two pieces in the front hanging down) in a clear ponytail then put a clip over it to hide it, then put another clip above it. It's not fancy, but it works for around the house or just running out. I have a few family engagements this weekend so I am going to try some updos with the curling iron and fancy clips. Thanks for your ideas, I have had short hair for so long I don't have any creative ideas built up yet!
