I need HONEST opinions please!

Hey you guys,

Geeeez... just when you think you have it all figured out.  I am so confused about all this hair extension business and what method to go with. I was thinking pinchbraids were best for me... but of course I'm not even 100% positive on that. There are just SO many options... and I don't know what or who to believe.

So this afternoon... I received this email:

Hi Amy I'm training a lady named Kari in extensions right now, and we are
looking for her first client-would you be interested in getting full strand
by strand extensions for 50% off? She has already done them on me, and they
look excellent-she is very good. I would oversee her work and you would only
pay $375 plus the cost of hair ($80) She has availability Wed or Thursday
next week. Please let me know if you are interested....

So what do you guys think about this? Please help me decide what I should do!   I just honestly don't know who to trust... Am I being dumb and fickle??

Yeah, seriously--were you solicited off this board? If so, that concerns be a bit. I do think $455 is quite high for someone in training, but that said, I'm not familiar with this person, her trainee, or their work.

Judging by the site, they do two methods: strand fusion and bonded wefts, both of which mean glue. Personally, I do not like glue methods, but some people are OK with them. Bonded wefts will only last for 2 to 3 weeks, though, so keep that in mind.

Based on the site, they offer Zury, Hollywood, and Bohyme hair; Bohyme is quite good, and the other two are subpar, imo.

Beyond that, I just don't know. Like AMM said, I think you need to do more research before you make any decisions.

I did notice that the before-and-after photos on the site are taken straight from the Mark Glenn site, which always concerns me. The bonded-weft photos are straight from hairpiece.com or hisandher.com (I forget which right now), and the fusion tutorial is simply a link to DocLocks, so just be aware that these photos are from other sites and, presumably, are not the work of this salon.

All other factors aside, there's no point in having extensions (that should last for 2-3 months) done with $80 hair (that will get nasty after the first wash). And if she cared about how well her extensions wore, she wouldn't be using $80 hair either. I -used- to, but that was 'cause I was clueless. I'm better now. And yeah, $375 is a lot to spend to be a guinea pig! Whenever I do a guinea-pig/test model, or do something just to get photos of it, I make people pay for the materials and nothing more.

Also, they charge $300 for a bonded track? Wtf?!

YAY!! I just got an email back from a HP certified artist in San Fran!!!! She sounds so nice... and is very helpful! For some reason I thought she'd only be into doing dreads - but she said she would love to meet for a consultation! I am sooo excited you guys!

Your pinchbraid/HP idea sounds like a much better plan, imo.

I'm not trying to start drama at all, but I recently read a really bad review of someone who was HP-trained in S.F. These kinds of reviews are highly unusual, but it sounded like the stylist was a little inexperienced and neglient. Chances are, it's not the person you've been in touch with. Anyway, I'll PM you with the name/info. just as a heads-up.
