Hello all!
First off, I want to say this board is the most helpful ever, thank you so much for your prompt replies, suggestions, etc. Please bear with me in regards to my next question. I am a total amateur when it comes to PB's, basically learned by watching. I am not a professional stylist either, just want to know how to better improve the temporary PB's that I have done on myself and others. Usually only a few per head. I literally mean temporary, they are only left in for a couple of days, or taken out before the next shampoo.
You get my drift, they serve their purpose, but I would like to know how to actually tie them off like you are supposed to. At this point I am using bright colored threads for contrast and I just kinda wrap it around the entire braid six times or so and knot it a couple times. I know my technique for braiding and putting the thread in is correct (albeit rough) but I do not know the tie-off. Can anyone explain this, or post a link, pictures, etc. that could help me? I am not trying to become a professional here, just trying to make sure my pinchbraids (or my cousins) don't come flying out when we shaking it on the dance floor!!

Basically, once you've braided down an inch or so, you grab both ends
of the thread. One should be on the right side of the braid, and one
should be on the left. (It helps if you stop braiding in a place where
the strand of human- the one that doesn't have a thread in it- is in
the center.) Then you cross them over each other behind the braid, then
bring both ends to the front and cross them over each other there,
winding them around the end of the braid at least four times. Finally,
bring them to the front and tie the ends in a square knot, and then tie
another square knot for security.
When I say "cross the thread over", mind you, I don't mean that you
should twist them on each front/back pass, so that the threads cross
each other and go back the other way; I just mean that one goes
counter-clockwise around the braid,and one goes clockwise, and the two
thread-ends pass over each other. You can also wrap each end
separately; grab one thread-end and wrap it four times in one direction
around the braid, then grab the other and wrap it four times in the
other direction. Then square knot twice, thrim the ends of the thread,
and you're done!

I have a friend with long straight hair so maybe she will agree to be my guinea pig. My sister suggested I go buy one of those life-size Barbie heads from Target or somewhere, but maybe a practice head from Sally's would be cheaper. Once I have a little more confidence in my braids, I will try and post some pics.
