it not a must you have a cut but if you want your hair to look nice and neat you will get it cut, the du-rag will only do so much and also the thicker your hair the more pomade you will have to use. also the main purpose for a cut with waves is the cut makes them just pop out and spin even more if you got em.
The reason is because at some point your hair will be too long for it to lay flat and you will look really bad. We say to get a cut about every 3-4 weeks until fully developed because you won't look horrible in that time. After it's trained a cut every 2 weeks should keep you lookin fresh.

u can see my waves really well now, my only problem is connecting the sides. its kinda like i dont want to lose my waves (if the barber does it wrong), but i really need a cut. and how do u know if ur hair is trained? today i didnt put any pomade in my hair, thinkin i was gettin a cut. and i put a wave cap on, and took it off and had waves.

Do you see what you just learned? Pomade isn't necessary! As long as you tell the barber to go WITH the grain your cut should be alright. As far as not connecting which ever what you want them to connect brush it that way? Are you brushing down?

TELL YOUR BARBER TO GRAZE IT,LINE IT UP AND KEEP IT THICK FOR YOUR WAVES. YOUR HAIR IS TRAINED WHEN YOU CAN GET IT CUT LOW,WASH IT ROUGHLY,WEAR NO DU-RAG,WHATEVER AND YOUR WAVES STILL SPIN PLAYA. (EX.MOot) HE EVEN COMBS HIS WAVES!

i brush the top forward, the back down, the sides at an angle toward my eyes, and an angle in the back close to the ears.

there goes ur prob.....if thats how u brush then u not bein consistenst wit ur brushin....it starts off in a circular position then goes flat then st8 to top....try goin in a circle throughout the whole thing.....as u move from ur back to u top keep goin up but gradually
mayne vg this whole week i been tryin 2 brush my sides differntly...i mean the same brushin method but juss change the speed or angle or suttin......now i kno how u felt mayne.....i b gettin so pissed at my hair sumtimes i juss wanna getta cut juss 2 start all ova on my left side n left back side
