hey all! I have a really stupid question I have no idea what the answer is   ok here it goes... How much hair do you need for hair extensions to blend in with really think hair(I constantly break ponytails =P) I currently own 8 ounces of hair in clip ins and it doesnt seem I have anymore room on my head to place any more clipin extensions. The biggest problem I have is that it doesnt blend in the back( you can tell where my real hair ends because it lies on top) and behind my ears where it is hard to put the clip in wefts) What is the best method for applying extensions for the best blend without the hair being stringy? Im not thrilled about how the extensions work because the clips are thick and can show easily through an inch of hair op top of the weft  anyway, your opinions are greatly appreciated! thanx =)

How long is your real hair.I ask that cause I wouldnt reccomend clip ins for anything less than a bob.Its not nearly as seamless as other methods.the clips should be small.Generally you want them to be completely hidden behind the weft but if you make them yourself its not always possible.The weft should cover most if not all the clip.The clip should be inbetween your hair and the weft.Maybe I'm just confused about what you mean.and questions are never stupid.You should have seen some of my past posts.They fell quite short of brilliant,lol

sorry about not being specific enough .  hair is actually 6 inches past the top part of my shoulder  I guess not a good length for clip ins huh  It doesnt seem like 8 ounces is enough to cover the thickness of my hair but then again I wouldnt know how much I would really need... or what method to use in that case. I have tried to have a salon style my clip ins but the lady gave me a mushroom shaped head(lol it was hideous) and it was very piecy plus anyone can definatly tell my hair from the extensions from a mile off. I think she was just experimenting or something idk. Im just looking for a way for it to look as natural as possible of course cuz thats the point rite?

If its six inches longer than your shoulder clip ins are great.i just meant clip ins arent so great for hair any shorter than chin length. The longer your hair the better they blend.Maybe eight ounces isnt enough for you.I can wear six with clip ins but my hair is pretty thin. Are these clip ins pre made.Cause maybe you could buy another set and bond each peice together.Instead of one Eight inch peice for the bottom back you could double it with another so its not so thin. A picture would be helpful.It doesnt have to be your hair just something similar as to give a better idea of what your problem is.

I'll post a pic 2morrow... Im still experimenting what color would look best with the extensions( theyre dark auburn ughh so hard 2 match ) anyway, yes the clip ins are premade ( they are in double wefts 2) hopefully the picture of the clip ins will work and help for now =):

this is what I have except double what is shown and in different sizes (1- 8" segment, 4- 6" segments, 2- 4" segments, 8- 2" segments) soo hope that helps... thanx alot for helping me with my problems =) this board is awesome!

here's some pictures i found.these are loose but they are still extensions.And some of them dont blend very well because of mismatched textures,color and thickness.I want you to look at these and tell me if your hair is looking similar to any of these with the clip ins.Particulary who has a curly texture with a loose wave,Janie who's hair is thicker and not as shiny as the fake hair,And Zoey who's hair is very thick and much fuller on top where her natural hair is.

Is that the problem color match? Matching the color can make a big difference.Its alot harder than to match with clip ins than other extension methods so i understand what you were trying to say now.

hmmm... my hair used to match the color of the extensions but it faded... just have to find a supplier that uses color that lasts longer(I use good shampoo for reds and no not pantene dont worry =P) it seems like it washes out in 2 days back to dark blonde.. anyway off the point. My hair looks more like Janettes, without the blue =), because of the difference between her hair and the extensions in the back but yes my hair looks like the to others as well.

also i am considering a different mothod if the clip ins dont work so what method would you recommend for silky straight thick hair? thanx for your help

everyones hair is so different i reccomend you get samples of various instal methods and do a mix and match install to see what works for you.

Also a pic of your hair (from theback is fine)  would help in understanding  what you rblending issues are.  so maybe one without and one with the clip ins...

where are you placing the highest clip on your head?

as high as it can go w/out having the weft show through so about 1/2" on the sides and 1" on the back of my head which is the worst place for blending and the weft showing through if too high... so basically one problem is if the weft is hidden, you can see where my hair ends and if the weft is higher you can still c were my hair ends lol =( Im convincing myself more and more clip ins are definately not for me oOo well

now I'm really confused.  You are placing the slip ins 1" from youe hairline on the bottom?

that will cause blanding problems no doubt.

i know =( if I place the weft any higher it will show through... ok I will try to explain(sry if Im confusing ) from back view, my part is vertical. I place the clip in horizontally by separating the section of my hair starting by my part. At the created horizontal part of my hair I place the clip in so the weft is right at the separation point. I then lay that section down and the weft is close to being seen but not quite and the inch of hair refuses to be blended with the extension hair  anyway I hope that creates a good enough image for you to c wat Im talking about =) thanx

that's just where it's growing off your head no  accounting for length, but you have center part

Your clip ins are long enough that they have to cross the part?  if you want the part you need shorter clip ins so you can attach them like this

if you don't go pretty high up on your head (at least bare minimum to the top of your ears) I don't know how you will ever get them to blend.

hmmm Im a little bit confused  =P sry Im fine with the blending on the two sides just not in the back below the part. is that what youre talking about? also getting enough hair underneath is a problem to because if you look from a front view you can see my hair, through the space behind the ears, verses the clip ins. sorry if I am soo confusing i have no idea wat im talking about when it comes 2 extensions

Oh I totally understand what you are talking about with the seeing your hair behind your ear.  Still haven't come up with a good solution to that.  Especially for clip ins.

I just mean you need a row of hair (whether it is clip in or whatever) close to your mape but then you need rows to go all the way up to about your crown.  If you don't go high enough especially if you have thick hair you will have an awful time blending everything in.  If you are aonly doing one row near the nape of your neck (which is what it sounded like) then I can't imagine how it would ever look natural.

have you read 101 and Bridget in the stickies at the top yet?  there's tons of good basic info in there.

Really sounds like you have alot more volume in your hair than the extensions.Unless your going to flatiron I would suggest styling the extensions so they have more volume.Like curl them or use a round brush and blowdrier to pump up the volume(no pun intended).That stick straight can be pain to blend.My hair lays very flat naturally but even my hair has more body.Curlier styles are the easiest to blend.
