QuoteReplyTopic: Gutted with breakage! Posted: June 01 2005 at 5:01am
I took my hair extensions out last night after wearing them for 9 weeks. I had shrinkies and Kristen's glue in the sides and extentubes in the back (bohyme held up really well). I was delighted when I was taking them out as there was no broken off hair or anything in the extentubes and the shrinkie residue and glue were really easy to get out as well. I had had a really bad bleaching incident where the hairdresser had broken off nearly all the hair in the nape of my neck about 2inches high from not washing the solution off properly and letting me go home like that. I could feel that all that breakage had grown at least two inches so I was chuffed.... until I looked in the mirror and saw that my actual length had all broken off in the middle section like detailed in the photos below and I don't know why. Its obviously not the extensions that have done it because there was absolutely no breakage or hair in the extentubes which were at the back plus the previous broken hair had grown. I'm wondering have I been brushing my hair too hard when wet along with the extensions or was it the mexico weather that did it. I'm going to have to have a short bob now, any suggestions guys, obviously I don't want to install my plastikhaar and then discover more breakage after another 3 months
My hair before install and where marked is where it has now totally broken off and is missing.
Hmmm....if it wasn't caused by the actual bonds, tubes, or shrinkies, I
would imagine vigorous brushing caused the hair to break in that spot.
Did you notice any shedding of your own hair while you were wearing
them? I doubt that the Mexico weather would play a role in it.
I know that's what I thought, my hair broke off around the top section where its the weakest whilst I was away but I've never had it break at the bottom. I'm so happy with the result from the previous breakage, that's grown lovely but now I've got to have it all cut up to that length cos I've now broken the length off LOL. I've never broke it off before from brushing. Maybe it was just really weak and didn't take much because it looks pretty sparse to begin with doesn't it so there wasn't much to break. Does the plastikhaar get tangly? I'm only having 15inch xxx
It may be the extentubes. I have mostly used extentubes for applying wefts, and for that I have seen breakage. I am trying to get away from any kind of metal in the hair.
Why don't you do the clip in thing for a while? That won't damage your hair at all. I am loving my PH wefts that I clip in!
What confuses me though is if I had breakage from the extentubes, wouldn't it have been in the extentubes and I didn't get any breakage on the hair that was already fragile and broken off. I can't do clip ins. They wouldn't feel safe when I went out xx

I didn't have it layered and I hardly ever used straighteners unless I was going out but I used to use straighteners on it all the time when I didn't have extensions in. I'm flumaksd! x
I don't -think- the breakage would be from the extensions, 'cause the
extension bit is only at the root, you know? And the breakage is at the
end of your hair.
Is it possibly that that hair there is where the previous chemical
breakage was, and you can only tell now that it's long enough to look
different from the rest of the hair?
Exactly Rae. I'm sure its not the extensions that have done it, but the bit I've marked in white is defo missing now and the rest of the length is very sparse, its actually broken right up to where the old breakage has grown down to. Well I'm going to take pictures again before install so I can reassess after my first PH wear and see if there is some breakage of my own hair again xxx

I have had this same problem but to a lesser degree, and I have not even worn extensions in the back of my hair for years! For some reason my hair is almost ALWAYS shorter right in that exact same section as yours, for reasons unbeknowst to me. I am fairly certain the hair on the sides of my head grows faster, but I don't think this is the sole reason. I think in my case it is from sleeping on my back and really tossing my head around creating friction, cuz I wake up and I have tangly whirly bird right there. This probably wouldn't damage virgin hair, but I color mine blonde so I think it is just fragile enough to break off from all the tossing and turning. Do you sleep on your back? Maybe you could try switching to a satin pillowcase. Just my two cents.
2C-Fine-Normal, 23 inches wavy Base of ponytail circumference: 4 inches
Goal: BSL, Approximately 2 to 3 inches from current length
This is just a stab in the dark but is it possible (since it's in the very back) that stray hairs from the side were pulled into the ring. I notice on my own installs, I can sometimes catch a hair that shouldn't be in the mix and when the attachment area starts growing out, I can easily snap the hair(s) that don't belong since they are pulling from a further area. Does that make sense?
thats not funny, I was dancing for a customer one time, and thank GOD it was a private room, cause I flipped upside down and my wig flew off. luckily no one else saw and he had a good sense of humor about it
LOl that's hilarious Kalika, that's right put a smile on my face.
Norsky, I sleep on my side so I don't think its that chick.
Amm - Yes I know what you mean but I have a feeling its just me vigourously brushing it. When I do clients I usually wear my hair back in a ponytail and I was finding it was bunching up at the neck because of me continually moving my head back and forward, then I would keep brushing it to stop it tangling, maybe its just that. Whenever I do a client now I'm going to tie my hair higher so that doesn't happen and then after 3 months see if I have breakage again.
Thanks for all your help guys. Hubby cut it last night so its now as short as the top of that white line and it looks loads better without all those straggly ends left and right so all's left now to do is find time for my PH install xxx

is your hair naturally thin?? Because my hair is so thin...and it looks
like you dye your hair blonde. I would think that its juts breakage
from dying your hair....and especially if you dye it blonde...blonde
hair is ridiculous fragile especially for people who have thin hair
like me...my hair gets to a certain length and then it says it wont
grow anymore! LOL I notice a lot of knotting and tangling with my
hair also...i have bohyme in...I constantly have to brush it...When i
take it out ill look and see if maybe i did the same thing you
did...because i brush my hair constantly so it doesnt look
tangly.....Ill let you know...Goodluck though!! Post pics after you
install!
Yes my hair is very thin naturally. What I can't understand is that I had Raccoon hair extensions for 3 years and this never happened but then again I had already got breakage underneath so there was only sparse hair left really so that probably didn't help. It would be interesting to know if you have the same problem xx

I have a lot of breakage at the midway point from consistently wearing a ponytail (sans extensions).
With fine hair, I have to either bind it pretty tightly with an elastic
or paste it up with hairspray to get the tail to stay in. This
alone caused breakage, and then with extensions in, the weight of the
additional hair seemed to cause more wear and tear than usual--
I'm still trying to figure out the best way of dealing with this--
Sucks to have fine hair, huh? Sorry that this happened to you--I'm sure it will grow back soon!
