i happened to be working out in the gym and there was a trailer and interview with the director of the movie, "beauty shop" with queen latifah..i'm kind of wondering if this is helpful to people who desire to go to salons, or gives them reasons to stay away from them.
one clip of the trailer is set in the shop. a woman is discussing a hair problem with latifah, standing in the middle of the beauty parlor. queen latifah says "let's see what we have to work with", etc. and pulls the woman's hat off. everyone in the shop sees she has a problem.
i know this is acting, but is this what goes on in beauty shops? i've had situations like this happen to me, nothing can be more humiliating than females sitting around gossiping IN the shop, then having something for them to gossip about OUTSIDE the shop..especially, when theY see you in public, and can't wait to tell the people they are with - NOT how beautiful the person looks now - but how terrible they looked THEN.
they showed the director while filming this scene - who seems to be pretty proud of his work..it's his first full featured film..he's only done music videos before. He felt this scene was funny, and laughed..yes, this is slapstick..and the scene is funny..yes..
but unfortunately, it's reality as well.
women should be able to be open - certain situations..but i believe what all humans, male or female appreciate is a show of professionalism and respect..be it a salon, restaraunt, anywhere they are paying money for a service.
