Care and Shrinkies!

I am not a huge fan of extentsions, however I have had my hair done in braids before.
I was just wonder, for the sake of curiousity, when you get extensions done, with glue or with shrinkies, how does one wash it or brush it?
Does the comb catch on the attatched parts or the shrinkes?

Also If I wanted to get shrinkies where would I get them?
