Hi. My hair has been abused starting with me coloring a light blonde (natural color level 6 brown) for 15 years and then having several bad salon experiences with lowlights as I was trying to add back in my natural color. I am wanting to stop coloring and let my natural grow out.
I S&C my hair every other day, deep condition once or twice a week and limit heat styling. I have read a lot of good advice on haircare on the forum. There is so much info I'm not sure what I should add to my routine. Would anyone mind sharing their successful haircare routine with me? I want to start taking great care of my hair so my new growth is healthy, but I don't want to over do it either.
Well, my haircare routine is: co every other day and shampoo once every two weeks followed with a deep conditioner left in my hair for an hour. And the only time I use heat is when I flat iron, I never use a blow dryer (let my hair air dry). It has really worked wonders on my hair. Just a word of caution getting past the itchy stage is no picnic, but once your past it, your hair will thank you for it.
Thanks so much for the advice. I am going to try the CO everyother day and limit shampooing to once a week with weekly deep conditioning. I occasionaly blow dry, but plan to cut this out too and see if my hair improves. How long did it take to get past the itchy stage?

Do you have icky scalp itchies? These can be remedied by vigorous scalp massage to remove any dandruffy buildup, which CO doesn't remove quite as well as shampoo.
Otherwise, I'd say you might want to try a different conditioner. You're probably sensitive to something in that one.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?
It took about two or three weeks to get past the itchy stage. eKatherine has given some good advice about the vigorous scalp massage, that really helps a lot. I noticed after a while of doing the co the oil production on my scalp really slowed down, so maybe yours will too.

When I first started COing, I was using VO5 Kiwi-lime conditioner. It made my scalp tingle, then break out, and finally I gave it up when I had scabs growing. I never did figure out which ingredient it was that I was sensitive to, but I know a lot of COers have that problem with that product.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?
