Wow. okay, first of all, it takes time and patience, but with the proper care anyone can have long hair ( and you CAN have an afro) no matter how thick or curly your hair is. Because curlier hair tends to be drier, it is really important to moisturize your hair daily to keep all of your growth on your head. Everyones hair grows, but curlier hair takes a little more to retain.
Try doing protective styles (styles that dont require a lot of manipulation), stay away from heat as much as possible, and shampoo every 7-10 days. Massage your scalp daily, stay healthy, and browse through these posts to get a whole wealth of info about afro hair care. HTH

OK I learned a trick this week..do not laugh...lol...my hair is really thick as well so to achieve an afro appearance...I stuff my hair in one of those really thin hair nets and voila...afro!
