QuoteReplyTopic: Help with hair post-braids Posted: July 30 2005 at 12:56pm
I took out braids that I had in for 11 weeks about a week ago. After I took them out I washed, conditioned, and deep conditioned my hair with NTM products. I was surprised that I had lost very little hair, because my experience with braids was always the opposite. I have about an 1 1/2" of new growth and I DO NOT want to perm my hair. It just seems to have done more harm to my hair and scalp than good. The new growth is still fairly tough to comb through..and I don't want to rip my hair out. I'm also scared to cut off my hair, because I had a short style a few years ago and it seemed harder for me to maintain.
Any suggestions on what I can do or how to deal with this new growth?
Finger comb instead of trying to comb through your new growth, use a good moisturizer on your new growth daily or as often as need. Condition weekly, also opt for low maintenance/ protective styles like braid outs, twist outs, buns etc.. HtH~
girl am in the same boat as you bt i have'nt taken my braids out i really dnt know wat am gonna do after i take my hair out i too dnt want a perm bt my hair cant handle being out n natural n i know its not good to braid back to back it does more harm than good. since i've started takin care of my hair while in braids i've notice that moisturizing the new growth twice a day has made my new growth so soft. so you could try that and deep condition it also.
as for wat to do wit your hair you either
get a wig for a couple of weeks n them braid your hair back
get a weave thats not tooo tight so you dnt keep pulling on your hair
Or b brave n go natural
the choice is yours

you said your hair is short? have you tried the wash and go method? just scrunch in your leave in or curl enhancer and maybe gel. also try bantu knots. with these styles, you dont have to comb your hair except in the shower. just try and experiment with different styles
