For some reason all of a sudden I am starting to get all these phone calls and emails from manufacturers in Peru that want to "sell me their hair from Peru for extensions".  I didn't think that extension hair came from Peru?  Has anyone used hair from Peru and what's the quality like?  I get lots of calls and emails from a lot of places about extension hair but this Peru thing is a new one.

Actually I am waiting for a sample of some hair from peru.  The woman I emailed definitely was from peru and gave me a phone number in peru.  This was a direct supplier and I think she was fairly new to alibaba where I found her. It's a lot more expensive than indian hair.

Thanks CherryCoke,

They offered to send me samples but once I agree, they will probably hound me to buy and I was unsure if that was the direction I wanted to go.  It if is extraordinary hair...it might be worth it.  Or maybe not.

Please let me know what you think when you get your samples.

That should be very interesting!! I wonder what Peruvian hair is like and from which ethnic/socioeconomic group it comes from.

Please keep up posted, Cherrycoke.

I've seen very pretty hair extension sites based in Brazil, and other places. Was never sure if it was worth the trouble of trying to order from them, though.

I was thinking if it's anything like the Hispanic hair I see around here on the Mexican women, it should ROCK. They have the most beautiful thick, shiny and soft hair that grows like a weed. It can take all kinds of bad home chemical jobs and six months later, it's all regrown to their elbows. Same with the boys. I have students show up in bleached and dyed pink mohawks and in a month it's back to chin length like nothing ever happened. Great hair in that gene pool.

Hi Karen

I think we may have contacted the same place Cherrycoke...I
also have samples on there way. The quote prices were very
high....even higher than a Russain supplier!! I had to check it
out and see what could cost more than Russian hair.

Hi SAS

So good to see you.  Hope you are having a great week.

I was talking to a friend who does hair extensions last nite about the Peru hair.  He also said it was, in his opinion, more expensive than Russian hair but that it was generally thick and lush.  He seemed to feel that the advantage might be that the hair would be potentially more virginal hair from the view of minimal chemical use.  I guess I find that a little odd.  They must use chemicals on their hair in Peru.  :-)

Anyway....it will be interesting to see how the Peru hair makes an impact on the current market.

Sure. But the sources of hair worldwide are usually poor women, not the ones who can afford to have their hair done. The only chemicals that hair might come in
contact with would probably be in the processing.

Exactly. I'm also wondering what sort of colors it comes in naturally - are there natural lighter colors available? But when you look at the probable source of most of the hair, it would most likely be dark.

This really fascinates me. Is there a large enough hair source (population) in Peru to support a hair industry? India & China for sure: they have nearly half the world's total population between them. But Peru? Guess so. It will be interesting to see what the samples are like.

hairsamples.jpg">

I received my hair samples from Peru. I washed the samples
and finger scrunched them and let them air dry before making
any decisions. The hair did have this strong odour, which was a
little off putting. That was my only complaint about the hair...but
I am used to it because I order raw hair all the time from
overseas.

When I first looked at the straight hair from Peru I thought it was
high-end naturally straight Indian hair. Indian hair has so many
textures from fine to coarse. It felt very slick like the healthy thick
Indian hair (which is very hard to get). I can order many kilos of
Indian hair and only get a handful of that very nice thick, slick
ponytails. That’s what the straight hair from Peru looks like.
Looks very strong. The Nature girl straight hair feels like a finer
Indian type hair-not so slick as the straight hair from Peru. The
Nature Girl straight also has a little more wave to it-very slight
though.

The curly hair from Peru is beautiful with that PERFECT curl,
like the Nature Girl 3b. Maybe the hair from Peru feels a tad
slicker but almost the same. The hair is very soft and has such
a pristine curl….each one like a perfect spiral. . I think this is the
closest I have ever seen to the Nature Girl 3b curl.

The wefts from Peru and Nature Girl have almost
IDENTICALwefts-super thin micro type.

This company does supply to Italy & Spain.

The hair from Peru is between $1000 - $1200+ for 1 kilo
(2.2lbs),, wefted 23-26” straight/curly. Pretty expensive
hair….but very beautiful. The colors come in the same as
Indian colors....mostly black, dark brown, grey, ..some lighter
browns but rare.

If the pic doesn't show up you can PM me and I will email the
pic to you of the Peru hair samples next to Nature Girl and
Indian hair samples.

Hi SAS,

Thanks for all the good info.  It is interesting the quality which explains the pricing.  I am curious...what did you use to wash the hair with and does that eliminate the odours from the processing of the hair?  Or do you find that it takes a while for the odour to subside?

Hi Karen,

Well, I have never seen hair from Peru before but it had a
stronger smell than usual. My Indian hair comes smelling of
mothballs as they throw a handful in the box before transit. I
take all the hair out the box and let it all air out for a week till the
mothball smell has gone. Then I give it a treatment, good
couple washings & conditionings and it comes out nice
smelling. I usually wash & condition a total of 4 times
before I would use it for extensions. I am super picky about the
smell of hair…..It must smell yummy before use!!

I washed & conditioned the hair from Peru only once and my
hands had this strong odor for a while afterwards. It eventually
went away from my hands but the hair looks like it is going to
need a good few more washings & conditionings than
normal to get the odor to cease. The samples are real small
only a couple inches each wide….I am trying to imagine what a
kilo box is going to smell like…hahaha!! Although I'm sure it will
be full of mothballs too. This is probably how the Indian hair
would smell without mothballs as well, so it's not a big deal.

I use a moisturizing conditioner & shampoo…..normally
NeXXus or Biolage. If a product is particularly smelly, I find a
good soaking for an hour in Infusium 23 helps a lot…..that’s
what I will have to do with the Peru hair samples. I never pack
away samples until they smell really good anyway.

The hair is definitely lush & thick as your friend said. If money is
no object then this is the hair for them….it will be great for
someone with naturally curly hair who wants those perfect
spirals and for someone with naturally thicker straight hair. The
Russian I recommend for the finer hair types. The Indian is
great in price and fits many people because of the texture
range it comes in. I love Russian hair myself but I LOVE the
curly hair from Peru!!

UPDATE
I just received another sample of the hair from Peru and it had
no smell at all....it was very nice in fact, So maybe the first
samples I got had been in storage for a while as Cherry has
said.

Pooey. I can't see your photo.

Can you send the direct link?

I too got my sample and peru hair is the bomb!

The curly is awesome!  This is completely like nature girl but the wefts are thicker!  I've never had Bliss hair, but it looks like the photos of it.  I will definitely be ordering this stuff next time I need more hair.  It's really more expensive for buying directly from the supplier but still cheaper than bliss and naturegirl.  The only difference I see from nature girl, is the hair is a little bit thicker around.  The naturegirl hair I got has skinnier individual strands.  These curls might even be a bit fatter than my nature girl curls.  I asked for a 24 inch sample and this is very very curly chubby bouncy curls. Dream curls!  I LOVE this curly! It's just like my hair but way better!

Well, straight hair never gets my heart racing no matter how wonderful it is, but I asked for a very long sample for a friend.  This hair is MUCH slicker, and shiny and smoother than indianhairs that's for sure.  Still the individual hairs are thick around.  Also the hair is awesome from top to bottom. No splits.  Much higher quality than indianhairs and skmhair and definitely nicer to the touch. This hair is silky!  With just these samples to go from I would have to say Peru straight is way better than indian straight.  The sample is also 26 inches long and is entirely silky! Usually hair this long is drier at the bottom.

These wefts are really great too. Especially the straight one.  Maybe because they can pack the hair in tighter or something. I can hardly pull the hair out! There was one reddish hair on the sample that I tried to yank out and the little bugger just wouldn't go! I ended up snapping the hair but never getting it out of the weft.  There won't be any shedding with this puppy!

The hair does smell pretty funny. But I got it out with a little optimum oil after wash so it smells nice now.  The curly seemed to have some oil on it that didnt smell so hot. The straight smelled like it had been in storage.

Here's the link to the photo if it stops working.

Koffee, Can you see saveastray's photo? I can't, but I can see mine.  The curly I got was so awesome, but you might like a normal natural curl. I asked for deep curly and it was really tight curl. It might be a bit too kinkycurl for your liking. I didnt get any deep wavy or naturally curly hair samples, just the deepcurl.  When you seperate the deepcurly it does get pretty frizzy, like really naturally deep curly does, but when the curls are formed they are really nice and soft.  It was definitely a tighter curl then both of our samples of RealHair kinky.
