My hair is black and asian mixed shoulder length and I always had a relaxer to help with the frizzies.  I would like the option of having my hair straight (flat iron) or naturally wavy/cury(air dry); however, it is more like an afro-huge puff ball.  I cannot let it air dry to a natural wave to save my life.  I thought I could get the Matrix cold smooth perm but found out that my hair is to curly at the roots-  are there any products/perms/treatments/spells I can use on my hair that gives me the option of wearing it straight or wavy?  My last relaxer was 02/13/2004 with trims every 2-3 months.

Thanx Dot

Thank you both... I will try the Pink's but what is the cantu's deep treatment, Pharrell, I did a search-couldn't find it. I'm really not in-tuned with hair products.

You can flat iron your hair and get it just as straight as a relaxer.  You just need a good flat iron and good products. I wear my hair natural and just flat iron to get a straight look.  It ususally lasts 2 weeks and I just wrap it to keep the style.

Hey!
I'm half Japanese and half Middle Eastern with a bit of Kenyan. My hair is fine-medium textured (but theres LOTS of it) and I have medium-large ringlets all over (except the back where the curls are much looser-grrrrr).

When I want to wear my hair curly, I use a little serum to keep the frizz down and mix a little curling balm with a teeny bit of gel and scrunch that into my hair section by section. I find that if I don't use the gel my curls don't last as long and kinda drop into big 'S's.
Right now I'm using Toni and Guy Insights Curling Balm.

When I want to wear my hair straight,  I use a bit of serum and heat protectant before I blowdry. I like to get my roots really straight too, so I always blowdry before I use a straightening Iron. I like to use Loreal hotstyle ironing cream.

Right now though, I'm really into setting my hair or using a curling iron. I'm soo loving the retro look of loose waves and so after I get out of the shower I let my hair air dry a bit and then put lots of volumising mousse in it and set it in rollers. Once its dry, I take the curlers out and run my fingers thru my hair to break it up a little. I love the look, its really full and sexy. And plus, if I go out that night I can just pin up random peices and I get a tousled sexy updo!

OK I hope that helped! Sorry I got a little too excited about talking with other women who have 'mixed' hair and sorta just got carried away :)

hi aseya,, lol its ok, i get excited too:-) esp since im
just seeing my old hair again,, it was broken off and
damaged for soooo long and now its back to being
in almost its full glory,,all becuz of deep conditioning
,, i never knew what benefits it had and i cant tell you
how relieved i am to know thats all i had to do to get
my thick long hair back,, it has grown so much this
summer,, actually this year,, the one thing i miss is
my curls tho becuz im still relaxing but im doing it
lightly but i still cannot wear my hair curly becuz the
curl pattern is so messed up but thats ok i
guess,, i've also learnd the "search and destroy"
method of getting those split ends off ,, i just cut the
very split end off and dont lose any length
(noticably),, I jus have to stick with my regimens and
ill have my hair as long in the front as it is in the
back,, anyway im a beleiver in deep conditioning,, i
think its just about the most important thing in
maintenance of relaxed or just dry hair.......

I think you are talking about the hair typing system. It's just a way to categorize your hair type.  Some people use it and some don't.  There are several ones out there but naturallycurly seems to be the most popular one.  The hair typing just gives people an idea of what your hair looks like so they can help to give you better advice if you need any.  This link should tell you more.....http://naturallycurly2.com/curl411/types.php
