QuoteReplyTopic: Remove ash from med/dark blonde Posted: September 17 2005 at 9:14pm
I was gradually going to go back to my natural color from very light platinum blonde. A month ago, I used filler and went a shade darker to light ash blonde. This month I was going to go a couple of shades darker. At the last minute, I changed my mind and decided to just get it over with. I'm tired of coloring my hair and just wanted to get back to natural. I chose (on purpose) a medium ash blonde and used filler. It worked perfectly and is completely even. It is exactly my natural color of med/dark ash blonde aka: dishwater blonde. Now I remember why I started lightening it in the first place.
What color tones should I use to remove some of the ash and make it a little more golden?
(one of these days I'm going to do a strand test )

You could try using a shampoo for redheads, something in the Tressa watercolour linhes. Find a salon that carrys this and they will tell you the color to use.

Clairol gave me instructions on how to turn it more golden blonde.
1. Metallex Conditioner (wait 24 hrs)
2. Natural Instincts (demi-permanent) in Saharan Rose/Strawberry Blonde. 10 min, then rinse & towel dry to damp.....
3. Ultress medium golden blonde with 2 oz of shampoo mixed in for 5-20 minutes....checking every 5 minutes to determine desired color. When happy, rinse.
They said it will have a red/golden hue that will fade a tad.
Sounds iffy to me......I think if the red color shampoo doesn't tone down the ash, I'm going to a professional.

OK....I tried the shampoo and it did nothing. I talked (in person) to a colorist. She recommended a Light Beige 10 (blue & gold base) and Golden Blonde 9 (gold base) mixture. I played with the ratio's and strand tests. I got a pretty strawberry blonde with one of my strand tests and went with that. Well, with all my strand tests....I ran short on developer and didn't have enough to saturate my hair. No biggie.....it kind of looked like red lowlights since the light ash blonde was peaking through (I guess I should have used filler again. )
I do have one question....if I want to go more golden and less pinky/mauve/reddish blonde, what base from the color wheel should I use?
What I want is the color in my avi from a year ago.
