've always had light brown hair with a blonde sheen. Pretty sometimes, bland the rest of the time. So, a month ago I dyed over it with Color Pulse in mahogany and loved the result. I feared that the red would clash with my pinkish/cool-toned compexion, or be way too bright, but it turned out auburn and looked suprisingly natural; it really brought out the turquoise in my eyes, I got tons of compliments on them and on my hair. When that wore off, people complimented my hairstyle. :3 Probably because color is such a self-esteem booster for me.

Now that the temporary dye has washed out, I want to dye it again, but not with color pulse. I want a longer-term solution, but not a permanent one. I could theoretically go to Sally's, but I'm but a teenager, so my budget is limited, and the whole "mix shades" thing I've seen mentioned intimidates me.

All I want is suggestions on what kind of semipermanent dye I should get. Shade, brand, anything. I'm looking for a light auburn that's red-based and a bit brownish, but not coppery/orange. All of the cooler toned red dyes I've found seem too dark for my very fair coloration. I just want to tint my hair red, not make it dramatically darker.

First and foremost strandtest before actually coloring.

Why don't u try a color gloss called clairol radiance with has quite a few pretty colors but always choose two shades lighter cuz it always comes out kinda dark BUT the good thing is it fades pretty quickly or a demi perm is a good idea...wella color charm and clairol complements both have demi perm colors at sally's and a wide range of shades to choose from.

Thanks for the suggestions!

How quickly does the color gloss fade?

Do the demi permanent wella and clairol colors at sally's require any additional products, like developer or anything?

Well i'll give an example of fade factor...the glosses that i've used usually stay fresh around 2-3 weeks but i think 4 weeks is a more reasonable estimate.

As for the semi/demi colors...u usually need 10 vol. developer to activate it with or a color infuser/activator, and a color infuser also goes hand-in-hand w/ the color gloss. The good is that they don't damage ur hair and u leave it on for really short time, esp. the color gloss which is like 10 minutes usually. here's a link of the infuser for the clairol colorgloss just FYI: http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/1470/320564

Are there *really* no good non-permanent dyes you can buy at a "regular" drugstore?

I may end up going to Sally's for developer or gloss, but since it's kind of far away I want to see if I can research any options closer to home.

I suppose there are, but they're kinda' the boring shades of red. Loreal casting is a good. So don't u have other beauty supply stores nearby, it doesn't have to be sally's but u generally get more variety, better options and lower if u buy this stuff from a prof beauty supply.

hi!

so glad you found a color you like! i have so many auburn shade recs that i think would look great on you. But the thing about going to sally's is that they actually are pretty inexpensive and for me,worth it. im 22 and married and kinda on a tight budget and still am able to go to sally's. =) i get a big bottle of the volume 20/30 developer its like $4 or $5,and it lasts forever! I just buy a $4 bottle of my latest shade and its great. also theyre pretty helpful for mixing/choosing your shades, but if sally's isnt your thing the drugstore and places like target and kmart have the best selections! Loreal Colorspa has one called Sunset, its very pretty. There are a few Mahogany shades in the Clairol and Loreal lines also.try looking on www.clairol.com and www.lorealparis.com  they have each brand of color that they offer, and a section where they can help you choose a shade depending on your current color, what you want, what level of dye you want, etc. hope this helped and good luck!

Jen

life's awesome as a redhead!

i aabsolutely love l'oreal color gems. it is sold at sally's, with 10 vol
developer. i had ridiculous bleached hair, and i used protein filler with color
gems in a light brown and it has stayed for 3 months and looks great. if you
hair iss not totally ruined, it won't last as long.
