Hi - I have a question that I'm hoping someone can answer for me. My name is Leigh Anne and I'm a 27-year old caucasian female and I've noticed that some African-American women wear their hair very closely cropped. How is that look achieved? Is it just a matter of using clippers with the smallest guard? How often does it need to be trimmed? I would like to muster the courage to try a style like that. The women I've seen with it look so beautiful and carry themselves so confidently. Thanks in advance for any advice given!
i would go to a barber/beautician for this cut and it is performed exactly the way you said. You would get it re-trimmed weekly or every two weeks- depending on how fast your hair grows. Hope this helps. good to see a fellow north carolinian here- i'm originally from lumberton, nc.

Thanks, ladies! Caramel, I live in Greensboro, so I'm not all that far from Lumberton - it is good to see a fellow Tarheel on here! I know this is probably a stupid question, since you don't know what I look like, but I wonder if I could pull off the close-cropped look. My hair is already pretty short (about chin length), but I know it's a big step to go to a buzz cut. If possible, I'd like to get some feedback from someone who wears (or has worn) her hair like this. What did you like best about it? Least? Thanks!
Well- when i chopped my hair off in 2003- i had no idea what it would look like- at first it was a dramatic shock cause i started out with shoulder length hair. But then i started playing around with it and i loved and so did everyone around me- my hair was only like 2 inches long after the cut. Best of luck to ya and keep us posted. And i know exactly where Greensboro is- once upon a time- I attended N. C. A& T State University. I do have a boss that wears a buzz cut and she looks great.

Hi Tarheelgal05! Love those Tarheels, but I'm an LSU Tigers gal at heart! Anyhoo, I, like CaramelDiva, chopped my hair from past shoulder length to about 2 inches short in February 2003. I decided I wanted a change & I loved the short style. I could wear it flat (wrapped) or curled and it was cute. I did have to get it trimmed every 2 weeks, until I decided I was ready to grow my hair again in September 2003. Short hair is gorgeous - hope you enjoy your new style if you try it!
