Hi All,

I am new to the board.  I am a tone on tone blonde.  My colorist uses a base level 10 with bleach highlights.  Yesterday, I went in for a routine touch up, just the roots, no highlights and my colorist messed up and used the wrong color (he claims that it was just a faulty bottle of color) and my scalp immediately started burning. I asked him to wash it out right away. He then applied a different brand saying that it wasn't the wrong color and that I was just having a bad reaction to that brand which is odd because we have always used that particular brand (Goldwell) on my hair. Anyway, he tried Redken and, again, my scalp was burning, really bad. After a couple of minutes, I demanded that they wash it out.

After my hair was dry, I could see that it was a much darker blonde all over and the blonde highlights which were once golden are more white looking. My roots are a horrible shade of brown with a bright yellow tint to them. As if that weren't enough, I discovered that I have small scabs on my scalp and it's still tingling. The salon apologized and offered to fix it at no charge next week, however, I'm so afraid that my hair might fall out or something. Is there anything I can use or do to help with the scabs and this tingling feeling? And do you think I can get it dyed again next week? I want my blonde hair back. It's the ugliest brown on the top and the color is kinda scattered all over. It's awful! Please help!

You obviously have developed an allergic reaction to hair color. It was appropiate of the salon to offer to fix it for free, but if ur worried abt what they're going to do, the best thing would be to call them and ask them what their plan is for ur hair. In the mean time u really need to go to the doctor to see how u can treat ur scalp, because scabs are a serious issue if they're on ur scalp. A dermatologist is an even better idea.

Also, request the salon that u'd like a conditioning treatment for ur scalp and hair.

They already gave me a conditioning treatment in the salon. And I'm not allergic to hair dye, I was just tested for allergies a week ago and they tested for everything under the sun, I only tested positive to pollen. Also, I get my roots done every two weeks and this has never happened before. The scabs aren't even that bad, they're very tiny and they seem to be falling off but I need to know if I can safely have it dyed again next week to get back to my normal color. Thanks for your reply though.

True, but even if u've never been allergic to hair dye you can suddenly just get it out of the blue...i know it sounds crazy but it does happen. You said u got tested a week ago but maybe u've developed an allergy only now since it can happen anytime, but one way to know for SURE and to be on the safe side is to have the salon perform a patch test on ur elbow and leave the dye there for a set amt of time (whatever they say on the box) and if there is any redness or swelling it is a sign of an allergic reaction. That said, u seem really sure abt not being allergic, so are u sure they didn't use a bleach on ur scalp? Sometimes many pple get scabs from using bleach on their roots...just a thought. Other than that i don't know why this happened...however maybe the volume of developer was too high for u..was it 40 volume?
