QuoteReplyTopic: Receding Hairline!!!! Posted: November 06 2005 at 9:16am
Ok so I'm kind of freaking out just a tad..
You know how I was saying that my hair was getting much finer and not
as curly anymore? Well I've also noticed that I definitly do NOT have
as much hair as I used to on my hair line just above my forehead (the
center). The parting is much bigger now, and when I pull it back, I can
see that there are much fewer hairs there.
I can't figure out what it could be.. here are a few of my ideas..
- It could just be my age or hormones. I noticed MUCH more hair falling
out than usual. I know its falling and not breaking because I can see
the follicle bulb thing at the end of the hair. When I take a shower,
my shower drain is full of hair! I'm not losing more than 50-100 hairs
per day, though. But the hairs in my drain are quite long, and the hair
at the front of my head is short cuz I have bangs.
- It could be that since I cut my bangs, I have been pinning them
back with a bobby pin because I don't like them and are trying to
grow them out. Although, I've always had shorter layers in the front
and so I've been keeping them pinned back for a long time.
- I've been drinking filtered tap water as opposed to bottled water. My
mom thinks that may be a reason, but if it is then I don't know why it
would only be thinning at the front.
- It could be the blowdrying and straightening irons. But I always use
a protectant and I haven't been using them more than 2-3 times a month.
Which is actually less than I used to use them.
Sorry for my long post, I am getting a little scared and I think I'm
going to have to book an appointment with my dermatologist. (I also
have a history of sebbohreic dermatitis and it sometimes spreads to my
scalp when I am very stressed.)
I just wanted to know if any of you ladies have experienced something similar or have any advice at all.
Thank you sooo much!
hmmm...- sorry that you are expering these hair troubles, aseya. I personally have never experienced temple issues- only rear nape ones. Have you tried using garlic shampoo and conditioner? I know this has definitely helped me with shedding. Also you may want to try rosemary oil (10-15 drops) diluted in sweet almond oil- massage it in- this definitely stimulates growth and encourages it. Hope this helps a little and please keep us posted.
Me and you, your cousin and your momma too rollin on da strip on bow's

Hey aseya. What products are you using on a regular basis because that could contribute. Mine has also gotten thin in the front but I think I already know my reason. It's because I constantly pull at it out of nervous habit and sometims I pull it out. I know it sounds bad but it's actually a real medical disorder but I can't think of the name. I've been to the derm about it though.
Do you wear your hair in a ponytail a lot? That could thin your hairline out also.

I have the same problem with my hair everytime I wash it. I never had this problem before I moved to Germany. My hair stylist told me that I have this problem because of the hard water that we have over here in Germany. Thank God me and my family only have like 6 more months left over here in Germany.

Hi Aseya., sorry to hear ur havin probs with ur hair
,, if u are pinning ur hair tightly in one spot and
thats where the hair is coming out from ,, STOP
pulling at that area,, becuz u could damage the
follicles permanently,, i wore an EXTREMELY tight,
thin headband for maybe a week and for literally
months after that I had a red spot on the scalp right
near my forhead where the band was resting and i
probably would have lost hair if id kept it up,, u
should def check with ur doc though,, if its hormonal
,, it can be dealt with and the derm will know what it
is...

Thanks for your help and support guys!! I'm feeling a little bit better
now:)I guess this is what I get for all those years of complaining that
I had too much hair and didn't know what to do with it!
Caramel Diva-I've always had very fine, thin hair around my temples.
But the center has always been really full. I haven't colored my roots
since May. I'm thinking maybe this is my hair going through withdrawl??
hehe. I started adding rosemary oil to my treatments. Hopefully it will
help.
Pokahontas-The only products I've recently added into my routine are a
drugstore shampoo, I think it's called SunSilk and hot oil treatments.
I just remembered when I was working, a stylist was telling her client
that a lot of women use lots of oil on their hair and scalp and that
the oil goes into the follicile and can make the hair slide right out.
Now she WAS trying to make a sale, so I'm not sure how true that it is.
But I've been trying to just use the treatment on the midlengths to the
ends of my hair only.
Also, compulsive hair pulling is called
Trichotillomania. http://www.trich.org/home/ is a website with advice
and stuff, you may want to check out. You know? I have my hair in
ponytail like 95% of the time. I start work this week, so I'll be
wearing my hair down a lot more, hopefully that will help take the
stress off my follicles.
Sapphire- I live in The United Arab Emirates. It's basically a
desert on the beach! So most of our water is desalinated sea water.
It's VERY hard and the water in this region has the highest
concentration of chlorine in the world. I'm thinking of getting some
kind of filter, something like this
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P121807 &categoryId=C7240
Cookiesnkream- I know, I'm going to have stop pinning my hair back. I
don't ever pin it really tight. I even let it 'pouf' up a bit for
volume. But I do know that that area feels a little bit more tender
than the rest of my head, so it's hands off from now on! I have to get
a shot next week, so I'm going to see my doctor about this while I'm
there.
Thanks again you guys! Hopefully I'll be able to get to the bottom of
this. I was even thinking of using Kerastase's range for hair loss..I
think ill check it out after my appointment.

Yeah, that's what it's called.....I can never remember the name of it. I will check that site out. I've been keeping an eye on myself and I'm doing better with it but it's hard.....kinda like someone who bites their fingernails and is trying to stop. I've been trying to cut down on my ponytail's also because I wear them a lot and the derm asked if I did because he said that if you wear your hair pulled back a lot you could develop "traction alopecia" . I hope you find out a solution that will help you.
Traction alopecia,, I think would only occur with a
very tight pony,, if u loosen it up ,, u shouldnt have
any problems,, as long as u dont feel a real pull then
ur not messing with ur follicles,, when i was in
elementary skool i wore loose ponies every single
day becuz my parents didnt know what do to with my
hair LOL and never had any problem,, im talking till i
was 14 years old,, i had a pony EVERY day

Hey! I just wanted to give you guys a little update on my hair..
I went to my dermatologist and he said that I had sebhorreic dermatitis
(I have it on my face sometimes) and that it had also spread to inside
me ears, which makes them itch and stuff(gross, I know!!).
He gave me a shampoo to use (Cystel) I used it today and my scalp
wasn't itching at all. I thought that my hair loss might be due to the
problem with my scalp. The Dr. seemed to agree. He also perscribed me
some vitamins to help with my hair, so I'm going to try those too. He
did say to try and stop pinning my hair back and stuff.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know..I was only washing my hair
every 3 days because I wanted my scalp to get used to it since I can
only wash twice a week when I get my extensions in. But I'm going to go
ahead and wash it every day or atleast every other day. I might decide
to get the Fusion extensions instead of the weave kind.
Anyway I just wanted to say thanks again for caring!! I will update you all once I start to notice a difference.
Glad to hear that ur getting help and that you know
whats causing ur issue hope the shampoo
improves the condition
