I am new to this forum and have found this website very useful.  I am experiencing a ot of hair breakage lately and I hope that you can help.  I use Willie Marrow Enzyme Relaxer and have used it for years.  Other relaxers take my hair out.  I wash every 7 days with Creme of Nature shampoo.  For conditioners, I use Doo Groo Deep Down Intense Penetrating  Conditioner and Motions After-Shampoo Moisture Plus Conditioner.  I leave them on for 15 minutes under a plastic cap.  I then use Hask Placenta No Rinse Instant Hair Repair Treatment.  I use no oils.  Please let me know what I am doing wrong.

Huhmmm it could be one of the products your using thats counteracting with your hair but I kind of doubt it..... Are you keeping your hair moisturized though because that could be the reason. With the cold air coming in, it can extremely dry out the hair and scalp..Thats all I can think of at this moment though.

yeah, the weather can cause problems and really dry your hair out.  But maybe some of the products are counteracting with each other?

I agree with princess and ThAb.  You may need to find a good moisturizer and use it daily.  I have a thread called "Moisturizing" where you might find some good ideas on products.

Do you heat style?  This could contribute to breakage also.

I only use heat on the top of my hair daily with a curling iron and when I blowdry it.  I will go to the "Moisturizing" thread as you suggested.  Thank you for your comments.

Seems like u are using too much heat if you are using it daily...that can definitely take a toll on your hair.

I agree, the heat is definately the cause. Daily heat is a big no-no. I know its hard at first but try other alternatives like rollersetting, wetsetting, wrapping, etc.

you should only apply heat to your hair after washing it, never more than that, but if you have to, on very low heat

Yes, I agree with everyone on the heat use.  If you try to reduce heat use to once a week I'm sure you will see a lot less breakage.  Try wraps and rollersets as an alternative.  Something where you won't have to apply heat daily.  Also, make sure to do plenty of moisturizing deep conditioning treatments.  Sit under the dryer for 15 to 20 minutes and style as usual.

O.K.  I will use rollers instead of the curling iron.  I haven't been moisturing my hair as I should, so I ordered the whipped pudding.  Also, in another post, you talked about cones.  What are cones and are cones in my Cream of Nature Shampoo?

protein deficiency could also be the culprit,, it
could be moisture or protein or both that ur hair
lacks,, perhaps te one u use isnt strong enough,, i
had breakage and then used Nexxus Emergencee
recon and the breakage was very much reduced and
each hair seems thicker and stronger,, if u need
moisture a great one for me is neutrogena triple
moisture mask,, its amazing stuff and i use it after
every protein and every wash,,, u may need to switch
up ur products till u find what ur hair loves...
Hair type: 3b some c?, fine strands, last relaxer sept 05, never again!!! current :ap length on sides,,nearly bsl in back, damn those old frazzled ends! I am hair OBSESSED

i agree with cookies...the ntm deep mask is some deep stuff. i would use that or another deep conditioner a few times, i'm sure you'll see a difference right away. i would also advice a protein treatment but i personally think it's more important to get your hair some moisture right now first, then incorporate protein later if it's still needed.

please let us know how you're doing!

Daily heat is drying out your hair and you are not adding back enough moisture to compensate for it.

Definitely use heat a lot less often (at most 1x week) but try to go longer than that if you can (roller sets, wraps, buns, braids or twists).

Add a good daily moisturizer to your routine (see Pokas thread on moisturizers for tons of suggestions).  I recommend using products that do not have petroleum or mineral oil products (although some here use products w/ these ingredients and their hair does well).

Adding moisturizing products to your regimen. Some here add glycerine and essential oils to conditioners, others add olive oil, some swear by shea butter.

Continue weekly deep treatments w/plastic cap and heat if possible (under dryer or wrap in warm towel).  Definitely consider adding a few drops of oil to treatments.
