I actually talked to her haircolorist the day of the PC awards and she told me that JS's hair was deliberately colored to make it "darker, more natural and to leave the roots" because she was going to be channeling Daisy Duke for her performance.
Even more interesting, JS's haircolorist also does Jaime Pressley's hair and she told me that the biggest challenge is that they are not allowed to color Jaime's roots because the producers on Earl want her to look trashy and have pronounced "rootage". So both Jess & Jaime are supposed to have dark roots.
I know, it is weird but then remember that Sarah Jessica Parker also used to tout her dark roots when she was on SATC. That also was done deliberately.
In fact, Jaime's hairdresser (who is different from her haircolorist) told me that he constantly is challenged to find hairstyles for her appearances at awards shows (he is doing her hair for GGs) that hide the dark roots.
Who would ever have guessed that roots could be such an issue?

Karen, while I consider you an expert on everything hair, I have to ask you: do you believe this haircolorist? Someone would actually dye her roots dark, no matter how crappy it makes her look? I guess I'm having a hard time believing what I'm reading (maybe because Jessica is the sister of Ashlee, a habitual liar. lol).
Now, Karen, please tell me you still have gorgeous waistlength hair! Would YOU ever do that to your roots intentionally?

Kramer,
Re-read Karen's post. JS/JP have roots for a professional reason.
And I don't think Karen's hair is waist-length, anymore.

I understood it the first time I read it. I just found it hard to believe -- and still find it hard to believe -- that someone would darken roots and make her hair look worse. I didn't see her performance of Daisy Duke. Did she have dark roots in the movie? In Jessica's video of "Boots are Made for Walkin'," I was focusing more on her attire than her hair. Either way, I love a woman's natural color whenever possible and hate dark roots pretty much all the time. But hey, that's just me.
Now, Karen, about your hair...

I can see why they do it delbirately for shows. Us common folk can't
really afford to have the time to go in all the time to get our roots
touched up. This way they look more on our level... It works does it
not. Makes the character more believable? Even though Dukes of Hazzard
flopped like a dead fish....

This probably sounds pretty weird but i like roots.I loved SJP with her grown out look.I've seen a ton of celebs with roots and they didnt necessarily look trashy. And on a counter note I've seen people like pam anderson and jenna jameson with their roots completely covered, but still managed to look trashy. Its all about the way its worn.Your right it can look white trashy when you see that awful yellowy blonde over 2 or more inches of dark roots. But then again the wrong shade of blonde can make a person look bad.
Here's two very good examples. These women look anything but trashy.IMHO.

Hey Kramer & Dave.....
Kramer...so kind.
Dave...thanks as well.
Yes, I believe the haircolorist. I have talked to her many times and she is a straight shooter. I also know Jessica's hairdresser very well. We IM almost daily. Yesterday he IM'd that he was "on set" with Brittany Murphy and doing her hair. He confirmed that Jessica had darker roots to portray Daisy Duke correctly.
Kramer ...thank you for your kind words. Dave is right. My hair is 5 inches below my waist. I went through a brief shedding period in the Summer of 2005 (2005 was a very bad year for me personally) but it is starting to thicken again and I noticed it was growing again.
Yes...I take hair vitamins and have for years. And it is holding right about 5 inches below my waist but I have decided to really focus on getting it to grow longer if possible during 2006. I have a few new tricks up my hair sleeve that I am going to try.
Back to the haircolorists & hairdressers...I have been very fortunate over the past 5 years to make friends with & develop really great celeb hairdresser sources (Rita Hazan, Ken Paves, Robert Hallowell, Laurent D, Louise O'Connor, Jesse Briggs, Barbara Lhotan, Frankie Payne) and they have never misled me. Sometimes they talk "off the record" but they are always generous with their time and scoops. Robert and Ken email and IM constantly and they work on so many celebs that I feel very fortunate to get the inside scoops.
Robert Hallowell has worked on every single actress & actor's head on Commander In Chief from Geena Davis to Polly Bergen as well as all the male stars. He has worked on Bruce Willis, Marilyn Manson, Brendan Fraser and then Mary Louise Parker and Lucy Liu.
While some kids want to run away and join the circus, I want to run away to LA and be Ken or Robert's go-fer. :-)
