DFWStylist,
I understand your reasoning. But as a 20-year-old completely on my own and very into saving my money I want to learn how to color my hair on my own. That's why I am here. If I have the right products, and correct color...I can follow the directions and my common sense. I may screw up possibly, sure but, I can learn...I WANT TO LEARN.
I want to learn how to make my hair more of a white blonde!
So if ANYONE else can reply and help me answer the questions I have above I would greatly, greatly appreciate it. If not, I'm going to take a chance on my thin, orange hair.
Your professionals here have given you very accurate advice. As an American Board Certified Haircolorist, I'm glad to see that there are stylists with great knowledge that's willing to share that with you freely. I also understand that you don't want to go to a professional twice a month for a retouch. But I feel that if you were to go and have this done properly, you as a white blonde with a minimal % of natural lowlites(not dark, but of your natural color), you will be brighter that ever and this could extend retouches for an average of once every 2 months. The other benefit is that the stylist can have a better view of placement as to not overlap where you are already overprocessed. You deserve this pampering, and so does your hair and in the end you will save so much more headaches and money and especially the integrity of your hair. Trust your stylist but research for a great one. Also try Wella's keratin oil treatment-the best I've come across-but can only be performed by select professionals. There are no substitutes.
Hi Alayney, thanks for your reply....It was the clarifier that made my hair orange. I have been using this Hempz-pure herbal extracts-shampoo...I use the conditioner that comes with my hair dye. Since the damage, I have used Beyond the Zone/Last Call Hair Masque on my hair...seems to be helping.
I am not interested in spending the money to go to a professional twice a month. So as my hair is now...what steps should I take to get it to a white blonde? Should I try a toner first to see what happens? Should I use a filler prior to dying it. Should I stay away from bleaching it on my own and just find a light blonde? Or is there a safe/smart way I can dye my hair?
Oh and also...what you said about high lift color...I don't understand that. I don't know what high lift color is. I have also been told by a lot of people something about 20 and 40 lift or something? What is it that I am getting in the stores when I buy a normal box of hair dye? And if I buy something different what does it do for me?
Thanks!
Courtney

The purple would have faded on it's own (probably rather quickly). It's happened to me before and it was gone in a day. It's never a good idea to color twice in a row.
As for "white blonde" hair, YES it needs to be bleached to pale yellow and then toned. Was it that "clarifier" that turned your hair orange? Sounds like it took the color out along with the purple. OR was it orange after your two dye sessions? You're going to have to give your hair a rest. It's hard enough on the hair taking virgin hair to white blond, much less hair that's already been bleached out. What kind of shampoos and conditioners do you use? I would recommend a reconstructor and a moisturizing conditioner -- could mix the two or do separately. Deep condition once a week.
It really is best to leave the platinum up to the professionals. Of course, be VERY specific (pictures!) of what you want; all I've been hearing about is disaster upon disaster.
As for a strand test. No, you don't need to snip your hair. Can do it right on your head.
You know, since you're already a natural blonde, a high lift color might give you a nice lighter blonde. Not sure about platinum though. I'm pretty sure that has to be toned. That's all I know ...

Really...for a white blonde, bleaching? So any box in the store that says its a bleach blonde...bleaching kit, etc...thats what im looking for?
Its hard to tell if a strand test would work. My hair turned purple in one area and the strand i chose would have probably turned out fine like most of my hair did. For a strand test i have to snip off my hair?
What does everyone else think of my first post?

Going white blond requires bleaching, which can be harsh to your hair and probably cause further damage.
But before you continue playing Russian Roulette with different hair brands, maybe you should consult a colorist.
You start mixing different hair brands, you will get adverse and unwanted effects like purple hair. If you persist in home coloring - stick to one brand.
Also, if you continue to home-color - please try doing something many people who post here apparently refuse to do - run a TEST STRAND first.

I dye my hair blonde. It is naturally dirty blonde.
I decided I wanted to go with a different shade of blonde so I switched from Revlon to Garnier.
The dye turned purple on my head and when I washed it out, a very, very light purple stayed in my hair.Only at front chunks on both front sides of my hair though.
I didn’t like this at all.
So I then got Clairol (chose same shade from Garnier) hair dye and dyed it again within hours…that hair dye was purple to begin with and when I washed out the dye, my hair seemed basically the same.Still with the purple.
My hair got damaged from this. When it’s wet the ends stretch.
I went to Sallys to ask for advice.I was given a conditioner and a Crystal Clarifying Treatment (says it naturally removes build up from hair). The Crystal Clarifying Treatment was to maybe take out the purple.
After I used the Crystal Clarifying Treatment it seemed to take out the purple…maybe a liiiittle left. But my hair is now a blonde orange.Too orange for my liking.
The conditioner seemed to have helped and I cut off the damaged ends though. =)
My question is this:When and how should I dye my hair again?I want my hair to be a white blonde not orangey. And I don’t want purples or any crazy color to show up again.I heard I should use a filler? Is that true?Should I strip my hair?Should I stay away from store dye? Let me know.
