QuoteReplyTopic: Grease VS. Oil Posted: February 24 2006 at 5:12pm
So I've been noticing that back in the day when I used grease, my hair grew really full and long with barely no damage. Now that I use great products such as oil and moisturizers, it's soft, but is prone to split ends. Why is that? and has anyone ever experienced this?

I never really experienced this, maybe because I occasionally grease,A tip:use grease on the ends,I do that to protect my ends or a try a very heavy oil such as olive oil or castor oil

I've experienced the reverse. Grease was bad for my hair but it really loves oils such as jojoba and shea butter. Sometimes you have to experiment with the oils to find which one works for you. Olive oil was too heavy for me (I wanted a shower as soon as I put it on), Coconut oil didn't work for me either but jojoba is just perfect. I don't know why.
I agree with the previous poster - it sounds like you need to oil up your ends. Try Wild Growth oil or castor oil. I personally put shea butter and WGO on my ends before braiding them up for the night.

It sounds as if you need some protein to strengthen the hair; you have to have a balance between protein and moisture to have healthly hair. I use Aphoghee for my protein treatments (5min under a hooded dryer)and it helps to keep my hair strong. Sistaslick put up a very informative post on black beauty, black hair
