Styles with Irons

My girlfriend wants to try two styles with a GHD ceramic iron in a few weeks. Anyone got any pointers to where it's described how to do them or can give some tips.

One is to wrap sections of her long hair round a scrunched up roll of kitchen foil and then iron it to get a tousled look.

The other was described to her by an upcoming hairdresser, who did a model's hair into a 'candyfloss' 'bush' by wrapping very small sections round a piece of wire, I guess like a coathanger, and then ironing it. Think he might then have back combed it. He showed a picture of the effect on the model and it looked cool - but he said it took a long time.

Any ideas how to do these or is it just a case of try it till it works?
