Detangling long hair

If you want to put a band on them, buy those tiny black bands (you can get like 500 for 1.50 or so). I used to do that, and I would also trim my hair that way....twist, put the bands on, and cut whatever was still sticking out of the ends.

It will be worth it to use bands: you can wear it for an entire week (2 if you keep it wrapped), and it's a great way to ensure you clip all of your hair if you use that way to clip. Also, because the bands are on the very ends, it doesn't pull your hair out.

I've tried twists but my hair doesn't seem to hold them very well.  My hair is very strange, it's nappy at the top but quite loose the lower down it gets.  So all my twists unravel unless I put a band at the end of them.

So most days I wear my hair in a puff.  I wrap the puff part of it to stop it from tangling because I have noticed my hair tangles more if I don't!  I sometimes braid as well, maybe I need to do that more often.

Unless you wash nearly every day, you should do double strand twists. Not necessarily very thin ones, just enough to keep your hair from tangling. Or, if your personality fits it, you can wear headwraps. My hair used to be long and natural and I loved it. I only got it texturized because it was too long for me to handle, and I wanted to keep it long.

My natural hair is thick armpit length when stretched.  I am a daily detangler because if I don't I get knots.  When detangling it I section with bands and then use a pick starting from bottom to top.  My question is that could I use a better tool?  I've heard about K-cutter combs and denman brushes and am wondering if I would go better with them now.  I usually do get some hairs come away with the pick - not too many but enough for me to want to find ways of cutting down the breakage.  Not all of the hairs that come away are full length so I assume it's a little breakage.

What do others with long natural hair do?
