Before I start, you should know that one part of my hair (from ear down) I have coils, tight tight coils. In the front of my head I have loose S waves. The front portion of my hair is COMPLETELY healthy (except for my sides....)

Anyway, today in school I was reading a book. I had my hand in my head and then realized I had a bad habit of touching my hair so I pulled my hand out and one THICK strand came out...I examined the strand and there was a mini spilt, like is was at it's first stage. Then there were knots on single strands....I don't know how I have spilts only in the back of my head...I trimmed my hair about 3 weeks ago...and now I have to do them again -_-...What can I use to stop (or slowen) the formation of spilts because they ae what's making my hair not thrive...

Hair Type- 4a/b *transitioning front of my head*
Length-ranges from 5-7 inches =)
Products- Garnier Fructis S & S Poo, Lustrasilk Shea Butter Mango Conditioner and Cantu-Leave in =)

Sadly spilts pop up whenever they are ready but there are some things you can do to keep them at bay.

moisturize your ends and treat them gently

wear protective styles

as hard as - it is try to keep your hands out of your hair ( I need to take my own advice )

trim your hair as necessary, i know some obsessive people ( like myself) look for spilt ends and clip them off.

that's all i can think of right now but im sure some other ladies have tips as well

For me heat causes a lot of splits so I would advise not to use it or use it very little and when you do always use a heat protectant.  Like sakura said, you can do "seek and destroy's"  where you take small sections of your hair and look for each individual split and clip it until you've done your whole head.  Yes and moisturize your ends too.  Whenever you see a lot of split ends it's time to trim because you don't want them to get worse.

I don't use heat on my hair anymore. I stopped last year after the lady at the hair salon made my hair damaged (she used a pressing comb, hooded dry, flat iron, curling iron and a blow dryer with no protectant....

Oh i thought of something else you could do. at night moisturize your hair and tie it up (i prefer a silk scarf) or sleep on a silk or satain pillow case. In the morning your hair will be soft and moisturized and your head wouldnt have rubbed all night against cotton.
