I haven't noticed any damage with acetone. For me, with whatever
conditioner I've tried, removing the Protac still causes some ripping out of
hairs and breakage. With the acetone, the tapes literally slide out and
100% of the tape and stickiness cleans off the wefts in a flash. I run them
through a quick shampoo and condition them and they're ready for
reinstallation. There have been a few times I've removed just one top
weft to re-attach it, haven't even shampoo'd off the acetone, and still
haven't noticed any drying or damage because the acetone seems to
evaporate completely off the hair. I have hypersensitive skin and have
never had a problem with acetone irritating my skin, either.

The combination of Biolage Ultra-hydrating balm (make sure it is the ultra) and the Proclaim smoothing serum from Sally's makes my hair feels soft and have zero tangles.  Combing is a breeze, but like I said in another thread make SURE you don't get the ultra-hydrating balm anywhere near protac because it will fall right out.

I have a question for those who use acetone, since that is a pretty harsh thing does it hurt your hair at all?  Just curious.......

Patches, at first I was noticing more tangling too. I've experimented and
found a few things that have seemed to help. First thing-- I brush the
hair out thoroughly several times a day. I use a boar bristle brush and
carefully de-tangle any knots I find with my fingers. I have never had
long, thick hair before so it just didn't dawn on me that I'd need to do
this. I also brush well every time before I shampoo, and finger-comb
throughout the day.

I'm using Purology shampoo, the moisturizing one, and only wash my hair
in water that has been through a shower filter. I find that washing the
Protac tapes well with shampoo helps to remove the stickiness which
seems to contribute to tangles. I also rinse each tape, top side and
under.

The conditioners I've found that seem to work the best are Alterna Caviar
Complex and Purology Nano. I alternate those two when I'm washing my
hair. I think the Nano has done the most for cutting down tangling-- it
comes with a little comb that helps to work the product through the
thickness of the hair. I used to try to leave a little of the conditioner on
the hair at the end, but found that this made the tangling worse-- now I
rinse a lot when I'm done. I also use a leave-on hair dressing while it is
wet. I've tried a few but prefer Alterna's Hemp Seed Straightener. The
hair stays soft, shiny, and really seems to have less nasty tangles.

Since we are on the subject of recycling hair..

Another question..

My extentions seem to be gettting tangles bad recently (last few days or so ) and Im not sure why they feel like they have a bit of buildup.. but not a lot I use good shampoo (matrix mostly) and not sure what is causing this... should I clairify see if that helps?

Kristie- Yeah! Elite rocks, and over time it's looking better and better, I
got natural body, bit at first it wasn't much, now it's so soft and has
beautiful body!! I didn't think the hair could get BETTER over time.

I dont use anything apart from proclaim shampoo remover and asda conditioner to take out my proflex tapes.  They slide right out and leave no residue in the hair.

that is such a great idea!....marking the wefts to remember placement, i had been wondering how i was going to keep them in order because i am definately a recycler!

I use double wefts for more volume. My own hair is short and very fine.
I've got my extension hair long now and it really needs the extra
thickness to look right.

What I did to keep the wefts in order was this: First, I sewed two wefts
together to make a double weft, in measured pieces to fit my installation.
Because I use microbonded wefts, I had to weave the needle over and
around and under to attach the wefts together snugly. (I understand with
machine wefts, one can use a sewing machine to zigzag stitch them
together.) Then I used color-coded thread, red for the right side, blue for
the back, and (a stretch here) lemon yellow for the left side. I sewed a
little colored dot through the thread I'd used to attach the wefts together.
For the very top weft, I sewed the dot at the far right corner. The next
weft down has a dot a little further in. I sewed the little dots, one on each
weft, a little further in, until the bottom weft, which has a dot on the far
left corner of the weft. Of course, the dots are on the underside of the
weft. When I take them down now I only have to look for the dot to know
which side, and what position, to reinstall them. When I was sewing the
wefts together, which took quite a bit of time, it only added a few minutes
to add the dot system. (Yep, I know I'm anal!)

Double wefts??

I think I only have like 6 wefts in there. But thats because if it gets to heavy I get migranes.. (the reason I had to take the last ones out) And my hair is so thin, that if I get to many you can see the wefts, near the top, And it looks like I have a wig on  I was thinking of adding a few more just to hide my natural hair a bit more.. Just one or 2 tho..

i would love to hear your method for keeping them in order!

I love acetone for taking out Protac. The wefts slide right out, and clean
up like a charm. I soak the top of the weft in a little bowl of acetone for a
minute and all the gunk comes right off. I wash the hair, condition it, let
it air dry, then reinstall.

I've also devised a system of marking the weft pieces so I know where to
reinstall them. I have a total of 15 double wefts stuck in there, so it
would be easy to lose track of which piece went where. It works great
because my style magically reappears after I reinstall without needing to
be re-cut. I am planning on popping in to my stylist every few months to
have the ends trimmed a bit, just to keep it looking neat.

I got this stuff... (cant rember what its called) From the place where I bought the hair, and the LG, he says it works like a charm, But Im a bit leary about it last time I got the stuff to take the tracks down (about  2 years ago) When she took them out I had a lot of breakage, my natural hair is very baby fine and curly... that experince is what took me so long to try extentions again.

Im was acctually looking over some of the threads about acetone, and thinking about giving it a try, Im very tenderheaded (which is why sewing it in is not an option for me I'd be in tears) Gonna go out today and see what I can find!

Patches, I don't know what you were planning on removing the weft with, but try acetone.  I just discovered the miracle of using acetone on LG the other day!  Slides right out (you have to make sure the bond is saturated ofcourse).

So when I take these out ( they are bonded with LG) just soak the exess LG off??

As for the color, I got really lucky, the place here where I got it matched it perfectly well worth the drive all the way out there. Especially since I have alot of different shades in my hair :)

Im planning on taking them down this week and retouching my roots. Since, my boyfriend from out of town is comming for my birthday:)

Knowing I can reuse the hair wil save time and money! *dances*

I'm on my second install with Elite Remy microbond wefts and Protac. My
hair has gotten softer, shinier, and much prettier the longer I've worn it. I
do take excellent care of it and use the best products I can find. I'm
figuring this extension hair will last at least six months (four to five
installations). However, I've already purchased a pound of virgin Elite
Remy for when I need new hair. I am looking forward to developing the
skills to color my own extensions... now I KNOW I'm addicted!

Do you need to buy new hair everytime you re-install??

I know its kindof a wierd question but, the hair still seems to be in good shape, and is rather expensive
